Purses with Zippers are Safer

Like most women, I have a wide variety of purses of all sizes and colors. I love to change from purse to purse, to match my clothing or the situation. However, for everyday use, I just have a few I use frequently. Recently, I replaced my everyday purses with smaller size ones which zip. I did this because both my sister and a good friend of mine have had strangers reach into their purses, steal their wallets and use their credit cards within minutes of the theft. Both of them had several thousand dollars worth of goods charged to their credit cards before they even realized their wallets had been stolen. While they had the charges removed from bills, they still had to replace the cards, as well as their Driver's Licenses and other documents in the wallet. It was a lot of trouble and unnecessary expense. My new purses are lightweight, so I am not tempted to set them down casually. All their compartments zip, so no one can easily reach in and steal my wallet. I do not want to experience the same problems my sister and friend did. Of course, for special occasions, I will still enjoy using my other purses. For everyday, however, I want to stay safe!

The purse I use all the time has zips, they are safer. We have a very interesting service for our credit cards. I receive a text message every time that I use it. If I receive a text message and I did not use my card, I can call them and block the card immediately. The service is free.

@DeborahDiane I know that the service is available also in Italy, because my brother has the same.

@LadyDuck - I get text messages when my cards are used, but it sometimes takes a day or two. I would like a much faster service!

@LadyDuck - That is an excellent service. I should ask my credit card if they would do the same thing. That would also keep me safer!

Those zippers are made for a reason. I will take note of this, Deborah. Better be secured always.

@JamesHxstatic - I have left my unzipped sometimes, too. However, after the experiences of my friend and my sister, I am trying to be more careful.

My everyday purses zip or fasten. It's always wise to be safe than sorry.

@DianneN - I have some large, stylish open-top purses, but now I am carrying them less and less. The bad thing about large bags is that I am more likely to set them on the floor or a nearby chair and, since they are open, it is easy for someone to reach inside when I am not looking. As much as I like them, I am carrying them only rarely.

My bags and purses mostly have zippers. I don't like using those open ones for the same reasons you've mentioned. I don't want to attract pickpockets with those open styled purses. I'd want my valuables to be safe and myself of course .

I agree. Seeing what my sister and friend had to go through, I do not want to have the same experience!

@JESSY3236 - You make a good point. I am also much less likely to lose something because it falls out of my purse. Better safe than sorry!

I have two I use. A small leather Coach purse and a much larger canvas pink one with unicorns.

@thislittlepennyearns - I have a Coach wallet and a Coach "backpack" style purse, both of which I love. However, it would be very easy to reach into the backpack and pull out a wallet, so I know I have to be very careful where I am when I use that purse. It's a shame, because it is a great looking "casual" but sophisticated purse.

I totally agree. They are much safer with zippers than those who don't have.

I buy only purses with zippers. However I have many purses, I buy only the safe with zippers ones. I can see very nice purses without zipper but I know that I would be stressed and affraid of the thieves.
