When did that happen?

When did it become rude to voice one's opinion? It seems like everyday some one is complaining that people are being mean or rude because someone else voiced a opinion and it differs from the one they hold themselves. When did that happen? Probably the same time sports teams started giving participation trophies and schools started giving non real grades.

There is a way to say things, and a way not to say things..I think what people complain about are the way things are said. We should probably think how we might feel if that was said to us. Sometimes people pic up on the wrong things in a convo too..and react to something other than what was intended.

Yes, offense is usually taken on how something is stated not on what was stated. Being tactful and respectful in your viewpoint is the way to go. And if that doesn't work a little levity might ease the tension

I dont know! I tend to voice my own opinion when people ask for it. They like it? ok? they don't? ok! We are all different and if we all thought the same then we likely as a society wouldn't be able to solve problems and fix things.

I voice my opinion because its my right as a human being. Not only that but as a American. I could care less if someone doesn't like it or if they block me because I get a little too real for them.

Well said Robin! Different people have different opinions, and it's okay to respect all of them. quotes- Juan Pablo Galavis

It's crazy that our society has become like this! I was asking my daughter last week who the valedictorian and salutatorian are for her high school, and she told me they eliminated them because it wasn't "fair" to the regular students that the students in the magnet program always earned the top spots. So, instead, they are going to have members of the speech club stand up to give speeches at graduation. How sad is that?

@thislittlepennyearns We live in a stupid world with stupid people allowing stupid things like this to happen. Which means we now have an entire generation of stupid whiny, entitled babies running around needing to be coddled.

That's so stupid. They are becoming to coddling of students and treating everybody as if they need bubble wrap. It's outrageous that the kids who actually do well aren't being recognized because people are too afraid to hurt people's feelings.

I've about gotten sick of people saying they are being bullied because someone has a different opinion than them.

I have read others who have expressed posts about differing opinions. Is there really a solution to your question? In my view not really. Maybe the answer lies in just being respectful in your disagreement. If you are that's fine. If people react negatively to you because you disagree with them what can one really do? Complaining about it in a post will not suddenly make these people change their behavior. Have fun on the site, avoid conflict, and take the advise of this famous cartoon character, lol. I do share your opinion about your sports analogies

@dgobucks226 well at least we know we agree on that if nothing else.

What's the point in having sports games if everyone is told they are a winner. That's not how sports were when we were growing up.

And that's sad. That people would rather throw a pity party for themselves than have a conversation or accept other peoples point of view.

Some people are so easily offended. They take what has been said...or written, in this case...and blow it all out of proportion. Assuming the person meant something other than what was actually said. Putting words into someone elses mouth and accusing them of saying it. If someone is unclear whether a comment or response is an attack, they should ask for clarity and not make "assumptions".

I hate when people get butt hurt. Or they think they are always right. And that no one can have a different opinion. Or if they don't know about it its gross or wrong or whatever.
