Question of the Day- Buffet Restuarant Eating

Do you enjoy eating at a buffet style restuarant or breakfast buffets? When I lived in Florida one buffet eatery I frequented on occasion was called "Sweet Tomatoes." I really enjoyed the many food choices and casual atmosphere there. One drawback was the crowds. It seems many enjoy the positive benefits of buffet style eating too. I am sure there are other positives and negatives one can find, but those stood out for me. What do you think? What has been your experience with buffet dining? Photo- YouTube.com

I stay away from buffets, you end up eating too much, simply because the food is there ready to be eaten. We do not have buffet style restaurants here in Switzerland, the food is expensive here.

@dgobucks226 The cost of the buffets in the United States is not too much. The real problem is that you are tempted to eat too much.

Very good point there Anna. Most of these buffets cost more than one can eat. And beverages can sometimes cost extra.

@dgobucks226 Hi DB, since I do not eat like I once did I prefer to eat at home and not go to a buffet because I do not eat much anymore.

@dgobucks226 I used to be that way and then overeat and then feel horrible afterwards.

@Hannihar I don't do buffets much anymore, but self-control is definitely needed

I understand. My eyes are usually bigger than my tummy when I go to a buffet.

We do love buffets! I love Asian seafood buffets. I also tend to love pricey buffets . . . expensive but well worth the food choices (like the ones they have in fancy restaurants or hotels) - the special occasion brunch buffets are awesome!!

@dgobucks226 Well, because it gets expensive (especially with kids eating the way they do, and we somehow cannot chow down as much as we used to), we don't go too often these days. But there are many buffet choices out here if we want to go!

@much2say Buffets can be a nice change of pace on occasion as you said. It provides you a chance to try out foods maybe you normally don't eat at home. And your right "our eyes are always bigger than our tummy."

Sounds like you are a buffet-pro! As you pointed out many terrific food choices at a set price is definitely a plus

I've never been to a Golden Corral but have seen the commercials. Any particular food that's really worth trying?

We went to quite a few in the past. At a certain city, we attended one and got sick after eating. We have been a bit cautious since. (Love the way we could choose whatever food we like there at those buffet style restaurants.)

@dgobucks226 I like the price for those buffets. A bit high, but worth every cent I think (except for the one that made us so sick afterwards).

@YrNemo Some are reasonably priced although they can get you on drink charges. Decent food choices for the most part and less than an entre at a fancy restaurant.

Sweet Tomatoes is actually a nice diversion. Normally I am no to most buffets. But I have always enjoyed the ones in Vegas. Occasionally we would eat at Golden Corral but lately the food and the element just seems like something drastically changed there.

I like the casual atmosphere at Sweet Tomatoes. Some people don't enjoy self-service but I don't mind. They have a nice selection of items there. One drawback the lines you have to wait in for the food.

@porwest In Florida, between the tourists and seniors everyone finds the time to dine out

@dgobucks226 There's one across the river and I've never encountered a line. But I guess it might depend on the time of day you go too.

Today I avoid to have a meal in buffet restaurant. As I have to force myself to eat a lot so that the spend will be worthy And the result is I will feel uncomfortable after that since I have eaten a lot. I prefer to go to have a meal in a normal restaurant and order my favorite dishes.

Yes, you are tempted to overeat to get your monies worth. And many buffets have basic foods not the higher quality restaurants offer.

I've always enjoyed buffets. I particularly like one buffet that features mainly desserts.

Yes, so many choices. I always make the mistake of eating too much so I am so full by dessert time, lol.

I do like buffets but the only thing is that I always eat more than I should. I always leave a buffet feeling pretty stuffed.

Yes Anne Marie, that is a big drawback for me also. I want to sample everything and wind up to full for the dessert, lol.

I loved sweet tomatoes when I lived in fl. It was the best place for a salad loving vegetarian! It depends on the place and food type. Kcf has a buffet and I have no interest in it. I'd rather make my own food! Haha

You would really expect a lot of people in a buffet restaurant that is laso affordable as well. I have a great time eating in a buffet. Like you, I hate it when there are many people but that is fine.

Buffet restaurants are great because they allow you to try a variety of different foods. However, it is very easy to overeat at a buffet restaurant, so it's probably best to keep them just for occasional special treats.

I am in total agreement. I try many things in small portions. If I enjoy it I'll get more. The variety and casual atmosphere are definite pluses
