My Brother

My brother had hernia surgery Friday. I called him today to see how he was doing. He was actually doing well but his doctor told him not to drive, ride his bicycle or pick up over ten pounds for a month so he was getting restless. He is always busy and doesn't know what to do with himself if he isn't busy. He was recently married so I told him this was a good time to spend time with his new wife. She was driving and they were on their way to see her grandson get an award at his school. He's the one I wrote about sometime ago who lost his wife to suicide. So I was especially happy when he found a good woman he wanted to marry.

My husband had hernia surgery twice, on the left side first and four years later on the right side. He could not drive for about 5 days and do not lift over 15 pounds for 2 weeks.

@RubyHawk Heart surgery is a serious matter, better to take more time than to try to go back to normal life too quickly.

I think my brothers doctor told him to wait a month and I believe he will. He also had heart surgery two years ago which took him a year to get back to normal so I think he'll be careful.

good that the surgery is over. and yes he needs to prevent carrying load so the hernia will not open again.

@RubyHawk It is very hard to be confined and cannot do a lot if you are very active. That is a good time to go with his wife. She will really appreciate it.

My dad had the hernia surgery last year. He could leave the hospital one day later. Everything went well. Today this kind of surgery is easy and the patients will recover soon.

I did my hernia repair surgery before. It was not fun for both side. But the good thing is that it had not come back since 6 years ago when I have them.

If you brother follows the doctors directions, he'll be back on his feet in no time! The question is, as a newlywed is wifey going to want to wait until he heals before she wants a little hanky-panky? lol

@RubyHawk Hopefully so. Tough it out on the front end so she can enjoy many good years with him on the back end!

@ridingbet He wouldn't have gone in for surgery if it hadn't hindered his work so I don't believe he'll want to do it over again.

Hubby has had three hernia surgeries. Once to repair the original one. I wonder if he could be part of the lawsuit that is going on. I am glad your brother has a supportive new family and can relish the time off while he is forced to take it easy.

Sounds to me like you husband should sue if he had to have the first surgery repaired. It must have been carelessness on the doctors part.
