I had my dreaded welfare hearing this morning, which meant getting up early to prepare all my evidence for how much job searching I have done and discussing the training course and the job interview with an anonymous warehousing company organized through their agency rep. The new job search log I am expected o use (replacing a previous system that has been closed down due to numerous complaints) has proved to be disastrous, as there is no option for logging job not searched for on the site itself. I expected conflict with my advisor over this but he has already been notified of its problems presumably from other signing on for welfare hearings this week. He was surprised and pleased that I had taken part in the course, and surprised that no one had informed him of it so he could assign me to such activity himself. My next hearing is in two weeks. I headed to the community centre to use its computers for today’s job searching, the first to be listed for showing to my advisor in a fortnight’s time. While there I was treated, along with others, to free sandwiches and samosas, left over from a buffet lunch prepared for another group visiting the centre. The heatwave continues but it was pleasant again after yesterday’s stifling humidity. Arthur Chappell

Job searches suck. Thr repetition of filling out applications gets old very fast.

@Plethos yes especially when you send them your resume and they get you to fill in an application form asking for exactly the same information.

@Plethos it is really annoying. It can take 30 minutes to fill out some forms

This is looking very strange to me...i don't understood about your job search, having a log for that, visiting a community center and getting ready for hearing etc! We never have anything like that here in my country! Could you kindly elaborate about it, as I am entirely new to it! Thanks!

@AKRao24 I'll try. It is complicated. If you are out of work, you can claim welfare payments to give you enough to eat, and pay household bills. This is conditional on looking for work for a minimum of 35 hours a week. You get regular meetings with welfare advisors to show how much effort you have made to find work. If the advisors don't think you did enough or that you are filing false reports, your benefits are stopped - if that happens you can starve. The log is the actual documented evidence of a job search to be presented at every welfare hearing

Glad the advisor was already aware of the system problem. I wonder how many people had to explain about that before he took it on board.

You'd need free sandwiches and samosas after those interviews.

@Kandae11 I have to log time, dates, the name of companies applied to and how I found out about the vacancy, or chose to target the company for possible work
