The Travel Agency Was A Scam

I also heard this story. There was a family who wanted to take a vacation to Cancun Mexico. They arranged it through a travel agency. They fly down there to start their vacation, and when they go to the hotel's front desk to check in, the hotel has no evidence of their reservation. They are shocked and tell the front desk how they went through a particular travel agency and they show copies of their reservations and tickets. The hotel says there was no evidence of reservations. This family was lucky though in this situation. The hotel called the hotel next door and that hotel had some cancellations. That hotel was able to host the family for the dates they had. It ended up that the hotel next door was nicer than the original hotel. So, the family got to have a nice vacation. But, the minute they got home, they filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They said how that Travel Agency was a total Scam.

That would be terrible. Lucky they had enough money to pay for another place to stay.

I do think, because of what they went through, the hotel that was able to take them, charged them for the original price that the original hotel had charged.

There is (or was) an airline that flew from Haiti to Chile. It was a lot cheaper than the rest and as now there are many immigrants that come from Haiti, the people needed cheap tickets. Many got scammed. It is called Law airline.

That must have shocked them so much! They were lucky to get a place to stay and hopefully, that travel agency was fined and is out of business. That's why we always stay at reputable hotels and make our own reservations.

That is rather scary. I think I would call and talk to the hotel before I flew there and verify everything. Note who I talked to and all that. Glad they did follow through and reported this.

I wonder who really is to blame the travel agency or the hotel. As long as they didn't have to pay upfront, then alls well that ends well. But I usually make my own reservations and even when a travel agency makes it for me, I call to confirm it. I think the family is a little to blame for not double checking everything before they left home.

So they had to pay twice?

This story makes no sense. Either they paid for the hotel already through the travel agency (and should have had proof) or they didn't. If they paid, then they should have been able to stay there. If not, then they never had reservations. Why would a travel agency book half of the trip (the flights) but then not the rooms? Why would they take $$ for the flights but not the rooms?

But I imagine they had to double pay. It's funny that the scammers did arrange their flights and not the hotels though. Hmm.
