My Little Cabin on the Train

Some people may not like the thought of such a little cabin for a four day and three night train trip, but I didn't mind at all. This is what the cabin looked like in the day time, providing a comfortable seat beside the window, plus a few little cupboards and a hand basin and mirror. The bathrooms were at the end of the carriages. At first I thought I wouldn't like sharing bathroom facilities but it was only for four days and turned out to be no problem at all. At night the bed folded down into a narrow bed that was always made up by the time we came back from dinner. The chocolate left on the pillow each night was a nice touch. So was the coffee delivered to the cabin very early in the morning as a wake-up call for the day. This may seem like cramped accommodation, but we were really only in there first thing in the morning, before dinner and sleeping over night. During the day we out and about on off-train excursions. It was nice having my own little space for the four day journey.

Oh, I would like that! I have only been in the sleeper car of a train twice and just for one night each time, but I was in Heaven. I love trains! Nice photo.

It was nice coming back to a nicely made bed at night, then it all packed up for the day after breakfast.

A four day train journey in that comfortable area of the train must have been a joy. I have been overnight on trains in Australia as a young backpacker so I slept in a train seat. I went from Adelaide to Melbourne, Cairns to Brisbane and Sydney to Brisbane. This year I did two overnight train journeys in India from Mumbai to Chennai via Nagpur for a safari at Pench National Park.

I like that idea. Did you keep your luggage behind and who cared for it?

@valmnz I remember when we were leaving for Italy from Switzerland with plans to get back to Switzerland our main luggage was left behind in the Switzerland hotel. I must say I truly feel your travel plan is great and exciting. I can feel it.

The main luggage was carried elsewhere on the train and not able to be accessed till we got to Adelaide. We could only take a cabin bag for the for days on board.

I do not think the cabin as cramped. I would say it is cozy.

We weren't in the cabin much. There were off train excursions daily. Just for the beginnin and end of each day really.

@thelme55 Our main luggage was stored away. Our cabin luggage stayed in our cabin. Yes it was safe. The travellers were nearly all retired people. It was an expedition train, not an ordinary commuter train.

@valmnz Were your luggage safe which was left behind while you were out of the cabin?

Never traveled by train, so this would actually, I think, be a neat experience even if it surely looks a bit cramped. I think I could suffer it out.
