Does your town belong to the Cittaslow movement?

When reading about the port town of Goolwa in South Australia I came across the term ‘Cittaslow’. I’d never heard the term before so off I went to Google and found that the organisation was founded in Tuscany, Italy. It is part of a cultural trend inspired by the slow food movement. Its goals include improving the quality of town life by slowing down its overall pace.
Full membership is open only to towns with a population of less than 50,000. To gain membership, there is a self-assessment process against set goals. If a town scores at least 50% it can apply for admission. There is an annual membership fee. Ludlow was the first English town to gain admittance and Mold the first Welsh town. In 2014, the USA had three Cittaslow towns, all in California; Australia had three as did Canada.
Have you ever heard of the Cittaslow movement before?

@silvermist They only take towns of less than 50,000 people. Others can join a 'friends' apparently.

Hopefully there would be strong psychological and mental benefits as well as physical ones.

@JudyEv Interesting and yes, it is a good idea. It is like preserving a place to how it is.

I think it should be adopted by everybody, including large cities. We all need to slow down more. Life just moves at too fast a pace for us to even really enjoy anymore.

What a nice idea! I am a bit surprised that there are no member cities in Oregon.

I was surprised that there were not more in the US. I guess someone has to start these things off.
