Growing Old

It's more than just grey hairs. Your perspective changes as you grow older. When you are young and life is still fresh there are some things that cause anxiety and you can feel like if it doesn't happen for you by a certain date or time your lives would be over.... but as you get older you sometimes get a different perspective and some things don't matter as much anymore. Like fitting in with the in crowd. This was a huge deal for me as a child, teenager and young adult and then I got married, had children, got responsibilities and I realized that acceptance or popularity with my peers wasn't really that important. Okay, it was cool to be able to socialize and catch up with the girls, but it wasn't the end of the world if I couldn't. See we all grew into separate lives and there were other more important things in our lives than being able to one-up each other with the latest fashion, cutest pair or shoes or hottest boyfriends. In fact, as we got older, it was just so much more precious to just be able to open our eyes in the morning and feel okay, to connect with our loved ones and just to be thankful that they were still with us. Life and perspectives change when we grow older and a lot of the issues that mattered to us when we were youths really don't matter as much any more. Life is what matters then. Just that. Life and health. MyLot, is there anything you raved about when you were younger that you think is just trivial and unimportant now?

I just " let it be" it's a natural cycle, life are stages so perhaps butterflies do not think much about being a caterpillar or a cocoon once although as people we learn lessons from experiences.

Yup! We are the center of the universe when we are young.

The list is too long! There is truth in the saying you don't appreciate things when young.

That's very true. And then you regret missing out on things or passing up things in your youth when you are older... or if regret is too strong a word, you feel nostalgic about it at least.

I always felt an urge to impress people and try to be in their good books during my school years. I have outgrown that I am comfortable in my own skin with no expectations to be liked or loved. I enjoy my own company and love myself the most!!

Studying too much. My oral health and health in general was more important. Tsk! I can't turn back time.

@AlisaTR When one is young you have different ideas about how you want your life to be. You have goals you set. When one gets older they become more set with their lives and then you health starts to go. When one gets older their life is more limited in what they can do

Perhaps the BEST part of growing older is just not caring about what others think or wanting to fit in, as you said, as much as you did when you were younger. All the other stuff stinks.
