Is There A Certain Type of Music You Hate (Or Just Can't Get Into)?

When I was growing up in the 1990's, all I ever wanted to listen to was the country music of that era. Everything else was just noise to me. All of my peers loved pop and were all about whichever songs were getting the most mainstream attention but I just couldn't get into it or warm up to it. Basically I never wanted to hear anything that wasn't 1990's country. That all changed when I started dance. My very first dance instructor had a large collection of music from all over the world and as I learned to dance to it, I slowly started appreciating and listening to all forms of music. Now, there is is almost no genre of music that I don't like... ALMOST... I still can't get into mainstream pop that is any more recent than the 80's (and some 90's). With few exceptions, I also don't like "electronica" that much, especially of the "down-tempo" sort, and I really don't like covers of my favorite artists' songs, especially if done with an electronica/down-tempo sound (and always get really upset whenever someone says the cover was better than the original). What types of music do you all just not like or have a hard time getting into?

That's cool. I also like 80's stuff, and don't listen to much rap. Though I've mentioned I like 1990's country and earlier, I don't like any of the new "country."

@JohnRoberts I'm not sure about that one. I've heard the name, but I don't think I've ever heard her music. I may check her out.

I wouldn't say that I dislike any music, there's just some music I gravitate to more than others. For me, Latin American and Caribbean music has also been very easy because of my Caribbean background. Rock and metallica is more difficult for me but there are songs there that I enjoy as well.

@skydancer I mean there's a whole list. I like David Rudder from Trinidad and Tobago though. He's probably at the top of my list... but it's a pretty exhaustive list. Latin American, I liked Los Lobos. You know... La Bamba? Here's a link. I think I might be dating myself...

@AlisaTR Yes, I know La Bamba, and I enjoyed hearing it again just now. Thanks for the link! Thanks also for the other mentions! I love hearing new music!

Actually I still like folk and country music more than all other genres. However, I am comfortable with semi classics too but fast music is something that goes over my head.

I love country! I got into country music in my late teens through my best friend. I like a lot of types, but no electronica or opera. My sister played opera when we were growing up. Oh, did I not enjoy it.

Rap. Just plain yuck. I also don't care too much for opera or metal. Finally, I can't stand modern country music. It isn't country, it's Bon Jovi with a twang. I'm more of a 1922-1988 eras country music fan.

I don't listen to those loud music that almost sounds like noise to me. I also don't like those hard rock, hard metal sounds, rap stuffs and the like.

Whilst my favourite music is classical, I enjoy most genres. However, I can't stand rap and related forms.

I kinda dislike rap, I mostly listen to pop, ballad, pop rock. It really differs on my mood. There's still some good pop songs out there tho.

I think I’m the opposite. I don’t have any genre I love or hate. I probably like at least one song from every genre that I like.
