Scent of life down memory lane

Some smells are so strong that it connects a particular time of our of life. Instantaneously it evokes memories. Can smelling something trigger a memory? Well, for me ! Yes, its like a time travelling for me. Everytime my mom makes this curry using an indian spice. ( mixture of spices) . It takes me to my granny's place where in a small alley there is a spices cognate store. In my childhood, my granny used to take me there . The smell of this spices is awesome, when they grinds in combination. The aroma it generates is something you cannot forget. At this place I saw many colours- the red from the romantic red chilly, the most noticeable color to the human eye, yellow , the beautiful black pepper and many more. Everytime this memory floods into my mind like a morning sunshine. Than there's this plastic cover smell which we used to cover on the school notebooks. My father used to teach us how to put cover on the notebook, camouflaging and labelling. This smell which the plastic cover releases is still in my mind . Whenever it comes , I miss my dad so much. It's a reminder that my dad isn't here anymore. Dr. Hirsch believes that the details evoked by nostalgic smells are not as important as the emotions they recall. But our minds reshape these memories, sending them through a rose-tinted filter that redefines them as "good times". Are smells important in your life ? Can smelling something triggers your memory ? I agree. I recall not only the smell of food preparation during my younger days evoking memories of those who are no more, some others including clothing ignite memories. We associate scents, physical items, with those who were strongly connected with them - siva

True. In my granny's house there was this small wooden bat which used in washing clothes by hand, was made up of pure sandalwood. Its aroma on the clothes, as well as in the bathroom was unforgettable.

Never thought of smells this way but probably because my brain does not have something important from my past to associate them with.

It certainly can. For me the biggest scent memory trigger would be cologne.
