Roseanne barred!

The Roseanne show is off the air and I did predict that it wouldn't be around for long. ABC cancelled the show after racial tweets made by the show's star Roseanne Barr. I never watched the re-boot because I do not believe in old shows being re-booted. In this day and age of technological advancement it seems that our brains have suffered a decline since we can't seem to create new and interesting shows. Roseanne is known for promoting controversial conspiracy theories online but this didn't stop the network from casting her. She tweeted a racist remark about Obama's former adviser, Jarrett. This is not the first alleged racist comment Rosanne has made since she returned to the show but seems like this one was the last straw for the network. My sympathies to Sara Gilbert and the rest of the show's producers and cast. Are you a fan of old TV shows that are revived as new?

I had already stopped watching it after a couple of episodes as I did not like it. That was a terrible tweet!!!

I didn't watch the reboot even though I saw some of the original episodes. I felt she had become somewhat volatile over the years and that turned me off.

@Freelanzer I wanted to see the show and see what it was about. I saw, I didn't like and stopped watching after two episodes.

@1hopefulman There was a lot of hype when it came back but I guess ratings may have started to fall after the initial airings.

Revived shows are just never the same. The originals are usually successful down to the chemistry of the writers and the performers and that sort of thing is very much 'of the moment' and impossible to recreate many years later.

I am just appalled at the absence of creativity today that results in so many old shows being brought back decades later instead of something fresh and new. Some of these shows come back with a fairly large following but the question is for how long. One also has to consider that the actors have changed over the years in terms of their personality and outlook.

@Freelanzer I don't think there is a shortage of creativity. I tink there is a shortage of people in positions of power prepared to take a risk with new creative talent.

It has been a long time that I followed TV programs. I had seen some local TV programs ended with the same scenario though.

@Freelanzer I don't know what happened to me. I just don't do watching TV lately. Hopefully, if I have free time, I can do it again.

@Shavkat I just think the younger generation isn't into TV watching. One of my sons never watch TV since he was a young teen.

I watched the old shows occasionally even though I was never fond of the theme. Never watched the re-booted version.

Thanks. Not sure why they have to remake an old show when they can come up with something new.

She got a bum rap. Liberals can get away with saying whatever they want and never lose a job. But when a conservative does it? Lights out. I think smart people get it. That's the only consolation for me.

@TishaMears I do not consider Trump to be a liberal. As for liberals, did you hear what Sarah Bee called Ivanka Trump? She still has her job. Do you remember what Bill Maher said about Sarah Palin's mentally challenged son? He still has his job. Have you watched the View and heard what some of their hosts have said? They still have their jobs. Have you heard what Robert De Niro has said? He is still in movies. I am very comfortable with my facts.

@porwest I hear you. And yes I know about Sarah Bee and Bill Maher. I've kinda stopped watching the View due to so many changes with their co-host. There are different circumstances with every case of politically incorrect comments. Rush Limbaugh and some other men have said some very racist and sexist things before they were held accountable for their comments. So it depends. I just feel that for you to say that liberals get a pass is a very generalized statement. There is a long line of "conservatives" that have gotten a pass for a very long time. We can just agree to disagree #racism #MeToo #TimesUp

the producers of the show should have known the risk of her being a hot mess. they should have got a publicist to tweet for her.she just ruined the livelihood of her costars.

@Freelanzer we know how hard it is for actors to find job in hollywood and she screws them from their biggest break in primetime.especially the kids, childstars have harder time to get shows and she ruined their future.

I never liked Rosanne and am glad she's off the air. I think it depends on the show. I do like the old and new Hawaii 5-O and I also enjoy the old and new MacGyver.

@Freelanzer Yes, it does. What I like about the new MacGyver, is that it really isn't a remake. He's next generation with all the cool gadgets offered by new technology melding with old.

Although I don't think they wanted to fire her as she was making good money for the network, could be they had other issues with her.

@Plethos I did hear that the studio was skeptical about the re-boot because they felt that she was a kind of a loose cannon. However, the producers promised they would work with her and she swore that she had changed so they took a chance. Mind you this is not the first time she has made similar statements but that was before she started the new show. I just feel that people generally and especially of a certain age should know better and act better and be an example for younger people. Then again perhaps she has an excuse as she has also been open about her struggles with mental issues throughout the years. In 1997 she said she had a multiple personality disorder since childhood so perhaps that is an issue.

@Freelanzer - usually youd get the studio say something like-" her views, opinions are not this stations, the shows or the actors opinions. We will work with her to correct this and make sure it doesnt happen again." Where was that generic statement? Not even an outrage for her to attend some sort of racial diversity sensitivity class. No smart business savy studio or executives would just drop a guaranteed money maker that quick.

I was never a fan of Roseanne. I also don't care for the remakes of old television series. Hollywood should let sleeping dogs lie. They need to get inspired with new, fresh and original ideas.

@Freelanzer Many of the creators of todays sitcoms are people who grew up watching the shows of the 70's 80's and 90's. They are living in the past and hope somehow to revive it by introducing their 'faves' to the new generations. Just my take on it.

I never saw the new show. I can say that usually when someone has a hit with a show and it worked out well you should leave well enough alone and not try again. The second time around other stars have become too confident as well and it never works out so I am not surprised that this happened.
