Somebody Needs To Visit The Tattoo Fixers!!

I urge you to take a look at the link I've provided. It shows England footballer Raheem Sterling and his latest tattoo. An M16 assault rifle on his leg. Now, aside from the fact it is a pretty rubbish looking tattoo it does make you wonder what sort of message Raheem is sending out to the millions of youngsters who idolise him. But fear not! He has an excuse for his ridiculous actions err... I mean he has a touching explanation. He claims that it is a reminder for him never to touch a gun because his father was gunned down and killed when Raheem was 2 years old. Now I'm not a sceptical man by nature (stop laughing at the back) but I'm calling bovine excrement on that one. First of all do you really need to permanently decorate your body to remind you not to touch a gun? How many times in his life will he be faced with the option of picking up a gun then (cue dramatic music) he rolls down his sock, gazes wistfully at his leg and walks away without wreaking the carnage of leaden death in his neighbourhood?? Not many I'm guessing!!! Secondly, if his father had ran off with a pole dancer when he was 2 years old (that's Raheem being 2 years old not his father. I'm reliably informed 2 year olds aren't allowed into most clubs of that nature) would he have had a tattoo of a pole dancer to remind him of that? I suppose, ultimately, we have to accept his reasoning. Let's face it, Christians like to kneel before a depiction of their saviour being horribly tortured to death to remind them of the suffering he went through for them so maybe I should cut Raheem some slack!! Maybe he should have spoke to me before attempting to defend himself to the world's media. The line of defence I would have supplied him with is "M16 assault rifle? Don't be ridiculous. It's quite clearly a tattoo of Bart Simpson standing on one leg giving the thumbs up".
Raheem Sterling responds to criticism of his new inking, saying it has "deeper meaning".

This is all totally ridiculous. I can't stand tattoos at the best of times and I certainly don't like this one.

I'm with you on that. I can't stand tattoos, either, no matter what they show.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of tattoos at all. Even if it wasn't such offensive subject matter it's a pretty poor tattoo. Looks like it's been drawn by a four year old!!

@WorDazza We have dozens of Bunnings hardware stores over here and many have sausage sizzles outside on a weekend. Various organisations run these stalls - Scouts, Lions, sport teams, etc. And now apparently someone has tattooed a sausage on a bun on his arm. I mean, honestly.

I have seen photos of beautiful tattoos and it's not hard to understand their appeal as a form of body adornment. Although I would never consider having one myself even if I was younger. 1 Tattooing had deeper meaning in primitive culture and very much different from the superficial reasons people give today, it is almost sacrilegious. In the mountain provinces up north here in the Philippine native warriors in the last century can only be tattooed after they have proven their courage in warfare or headhunting raids. Raheem Steerling's reason for his tattoo is laughable. And an M16 tattoo on his leg does not make him a warrior which I suspect was his real reason.

If you'd seen him fall over, screaming, at the slightest touch when he plays football then you can definitely see he is no warrior!!!

@arthurchappell Ahhh, the count. My favourite character from Sesame Street. He did actually make a cameo appearance in a screenplay myself and a friend wrote many years ago.

It boggles my mind how people can find an excuse for every foolish thing they do. Not buying it.

Unless he never told anyone he was having it done you would have thought someone would have suggested that it maybe wasn't a good idea!! Or maybe it is an indicator of the sort of people he associates with!

@Freelanzer I also think that people like him attract a large number of hangers-on who like t bask in the reflected glory of their famous mate. They're just going to agree with absolutely everything he says just to stay in the clique!

That sounds like a pathetic excuse to me. He probably did it while drunk or for a dare then had to think up a 'reason'. He says he shoots with his right foot so I guess it has more to do with that, and he didn't think he would have to justify it. Was his father killed with an M16? I have to add that in that photo it looks more like a sailor in one of those traditional caps!

i would of assumed that it was because he can kick a soccer ball at the rate of fire of a M16,

He claims it is because his right foot is his strongest so that's the leg he 'shoots' with.

Tattoos aren't my kind of thing, I just can't understand why people even want to inflict such pain on themselves and for what purpose.. I always wonder how their tattoos will look when they are old and haggard.

My thoughts exactly! I have seen some fairly impressive efforts in gym changing rooms but I'm not sure I'd care to see them in 30 or 40 years when the canvas is no longer smooth and taut.

I don't mind what idiots do to their bodies and if he wants to put an M16 rifle (which I used in the Marines) let him but let's get back to that pole dancer--mmmmmm---wonder where he would put it???

@WorDazza - I agree with you that it is ridiculous and rubbish. I cannot understand why he would do that. I live in a retirement community. I wish some of these young people would come by our swimming pools and see what tattoos look like when people get old!

(I like your argument there.) Guess all people who had gone through a bitter divorce, should tattoo the face of their ex, the enemy, somewhere on their body???

@WorDazza Really? I thought they just used paints to smear... hmm, save time I guess if they just tattooed and forgot about it! (ew for some ladies who married to those warriors!)

@YrNemo I suspect the odd tattoo was the least of those ladies problems. Most of them were probably married without actually giving their consent. Tough times!!

If he'd asked me I'd have suggested an AK47 - old, but more reliable and effective than the M16! It's just another example of 'macho man' flexing his (imaginary) muscles. I bet he also drives one of those huge 4WD pickup things! Could he be trying to compensate for something maybe?

I know why 2 year olds are not allowed at pole dancer clubs. They are too short and can view too much everywhere.

I agree that was a BS excuse. I have two tattoos that are tasteful. One is an unicorn and the other is an angel holding a moon. THe angel reminds me of my grandmother. Yeah he is setting a very bad example to kids.
