Age brings creativity and ingenuity

I’ve just read a post by Fiacre (xFiacre) about an elderly lady who is keeping her carers and family happy but by devious means. It’s worth reading. The post is: http://www.mylot.com/post/3185471/a-naughty-old-girl. It reminded me of my Mum who was very independent. In her 90s she was still climbing the apricot tree to get the last of the fruit. In all honesty she probably didn’t climb very high. The kindly neighbour suggested that she should stop climbing the tree in case she fell and hurt herself. She was telling us about this and when we asked her if she had stopped, she said she hadn’t. She said she just got up earlier and picked the apricots before her neighbour got out of bed. There is more than one way to get what you want, isn’t there?

She reminds me of my mom. She climbed the ladder to take down the curtains and wash them. Her neighbor informed me when she saw my Mom from her window. After that, when Mom wanted to wash the curtains, she woke up early in the morning so nobody could see her.

I think as you get older you get more and more cunning. It's the only way to get along sometimes.

Hopefully I won't be one of those that loses her mind in the end, I hate having to search for things That is a really good shot of the elderly lady. I remember you did a post about her once before a few years ago.

That can't be good @vandana7 maybe you need to eat more fish and eggs, I read that our brains need vitamin B12 to stay healthy.

Since the boys left home, we're forever behind their backs. We just have to be a bit circumspect if we visit!

I felt that the aged people are more bold in their work because they had already seen so much and done so much. They will be more willing to be more creative than when they are younger.

I love to hear about people that are still independent at those older ages. I think doing for themselves helps keep them healthy and alive.

@JudyEv When my Grandfather got older, could not see as well and so on. His adult children took away his tools. They did not tell him what they were doing, they just took them one day, he went out to his workshop and they were gone. he thought they got stolen. They were afraid he would hurt himself and thought they were doing a good thing, but he could no longer go out there and do what he loved, tinker around in his shed. he only last another couple years, to this day I feel like if they would have let him continue, even if he cut himself, he would have lived a lot longer. They turned him into an old man.

@mom210 That is very, very sad and so short-sighted. Cowardly too to not tell him what they were doing. Far better to let him run a few risks than to break his heart.

There is more than one way to make it work for sure. That is a funny picture in the mine of an older woman climbing to the top of a tree to get that fruit.

After she picked the fruit she would have made jam from the apricots. Then given most of it away to her friends and family.

Your mum really willed her body even at that stage. Great spirit to be independent. That reminds me of one senior staff who had heart issues. Then I heard he used to climb coconut trees in his home. I asked him why he took such risks. He said he had been doing that for years and now took a break halfway while climbing! siva

When you have been doing something for years it would be hard to have to stop, especially if you thought you were still capable of doing it.

This made me smile, thinking about my own mother her last couple years. Once, I asked Mom to stay at the top of the porch steps, until I moved the car up closer. My intention was to help her, of course. After I moved the car, Mom was already at the bottom of the steps. No way was Mom gonna allow her daughter, to give her any advice! lol
