Why do tragedies like this continue to happen?

I have read too many stories of young children being mauled to death by Pit Bull Dogs. It makes me angry and it makes me sick. Why do parents let their small kids near those dogs? Why would a Grand Parent as in this tragedy let their grand baby near their pit bull? I honestly think some people are crazy.
An 8-month-old baby girl has died after being mauled by a pit bull at her grandmother’s home in Florida. The girl, later identified as Liana Valino, was attacked at the property in Miramar on Wednesday morning after being dropped off by her mother. The chi

I had a wonderful pit when my kids were little. He was very protective of them and very gentle and patient. You do have to watch what lines you buy from. The fighting bred lines are more unpredictable from what I have seen. But any dog can turn and fast for no reason we can see. I trust my dobermans with kids, but I also stay with them in case. I did have one instance where Duke told me the child was getting on his nerves. I put Duke in a safe zone and then ushered the grandmother and child out of my house. Pit Bulls have an extremely strong bite so are extra dangerous because of that. They are also very loyal to the family they live with. I did not trust my pit with other children as well as I did my own for that reason. They were not his family.

Hi Anne. That is the reason why I do not like to take care of pitbulls because they are dangerous.

Hard to believe losing a child like that. I don't understand why people have these kind of dogs as pets.

I certainly wouldn't have a pitbull nor let my children/grandchildren near one. I'm sure pitbull owners would argue that their dogs aren't vicious

I really don't think its the dog breed, but its the manner in raising the dog. EVERY dog, and i mean EVERY dog, has the chance to go off the hinges and harm a child. Its why no dog or even cat, should be left around any baby for any amount of time, unsupervised.

And that's the number one reason I don't trust dogs. You never know.

We must be careful with pitbulls if we have children as my parents always told me some dogs are inhumane.

I think some of these dogs are pets and they are not expecting them to attack.

The owners are underestimating those dogs. They have not studied them enough before adopting them. They need to realize the dogs are dangerous.

Even though I hate "his series" my cousin posts maulings and killings by Pitbulls every day. I think they can be very dangerous dogs if not proerly handled. The breed was bred to fight, and be agressive and sadly, it is pretty ingrained..I know some pits are wonderful,,,but it would be a poor choice if you have children, or no time to attend to the dog.

A small child shouldn't be left unattended with any pet of any breed especially because they haven't yet learned how to respect animals as we do.

ANY breed could turn on anyone. It is how they are raised and no child should be left alone with any dog for any length of time without being supervised. It is heart breaking. =(
