The Warrior Games start tomorrow! The Warrior Games are a big deal here in Colorado Springs. Let me explain. The Warrior Games is an athletic event started by the Department of Defense in 2010, and held annually here at the Air Force Academy. The Games were started as a means of recovery and rehabilitation for wounded, Ill, and injured military through sports, in hopes that the competitors will remain active after returning home. Around 300 active duty and veteran's, representing the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Special Operations Command, as well as military from the UK Armed Forces, Australian Defence Force, and the Canadian Armed Forces will compete in 11 sports from June 1st through June 9th. The athletes, who suffer spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, post traumatic stress disorder, serious illness, and either upper or lower body injuries, will compete in events such as archery, cycling, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and field, and wheelchair basketball. Events added this year are indoor rowing, powerlifting, and time trial cycling. As I said, the games are a big deal here in our military-oriented city, and tickets go fast. Kelly Clarkson will be performing a free concert for tomorrow's Opening Ceremony, at which comedian Jon Stewart will serve as master of ceremonies. We are unable to attend, unfortunately, but I would like to wish all of these heroes good luck. If you care to learn more about The Warrior Games, I have provided a link to the official website below. (Info verified by the Department of Defense Warrior Games website)
Witness it! Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, SOCOM, U.K. Armed Forces, Australian Defence Force and Canadian Armed Forces wounded warriors in competition. It’s a thrill-filled week of 11 Paralympic-style sports on the incredible campus of the Air Force

Thanks for this great info. I have never heard of Warrior games other than the Golden state warrior nab final games . I think this is a really great game to lift up the morals of those athletes.

@teamfreak16 Game 3 today and the Warriors still won! My husband also won $100. The bet was for Warriors plus 5 points in the final score. He was lucky Warriors scored more than 5 point lead against the Cavs.

It's a pretty big deal here. It's on the news every night, broadcasting live from the games, and even a few former pro athletes have shown up in support.

What a great sounding celebration for our heroes! Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary- quote: Gerard Way All Veterans who sacrificed themselves for their country are truly extraordinary people!

I agree. I see these guys all the time whenever I'm at a VA hospital or clinic. Sad that a lot of people take them for granted and only give a crap about them while they are deployed.
