Well, so much for sleeping in!

It was a busy day on my shift at the antique shop yesterday. It was fun but busy. I walked in the door fifteen minutes early with my Starbucks in hand and was promptly put to work. The other guy left as he had appointments. We had a lot of out of towner's in the shop yesterday which makes it really really fun. The "shop" is the size of a quarter of a city block and my job is to cruise the shop and help customers and also help at the check out by wrapping packages and occasionally writing up sales. Yesterday the majority of the day was spent back in the store. One fun thing that happened was I came upon a man and a woman by our bathroom. She looked like she was "sneaking" into the bathroom because customers weren't supposed to use it. Which isn't the case, and I went up to them to tell them it was okay to use the bathroom. I wasn't quiet about approaching the couple (the son and his mother) but I scared the daylights out of the woman and she let out a scream that would curl your hair and straighten it back out! When she realized I wasn't someone to pick on her (and her son landed from jumping outta his skin) we all three had a good laugh. By that time my boss had raced back to check on things and make sure no one was hurt. He came racing up to three people rolling on the floor laughing. (I'm one of my boss' pet workers and he looks forward to my coming in...I kind of liven up the place!) I had to explain about the bathroom and that I already told the woman it was okay to use the bathroom. I got chewed out later for scaring the daylights out of him, he was sure I had gotten hurt. Anyhow while the Mom was in the bathroom I talked to the son and told him my funny using the pay toilet story along with the door flying open on the Greyhound bus. They ended up spending over a hundred dollars in the store and I gained a couple friends. After what seemed like a long day at the store without a chance to sit down, I was tired. I only work 3 1/2 hours but when you're on your feet all that time it seems longer. When I left and Bill picked me up we went off to do the couple errands I needed to take care of and then we had dinner. A couple of times on the drive home I nearly fell asleep on Bill's shoulder, and he would talk about nothing in particular just to keep both of us awake. I figured that I would sleep until 9 a.m. (which for me is sleeping in) but at 6 a.m. I woke up needing to pee and that took care of sleeping in. Even getting to sleep to my usual time of 7 a.m. would have been nice. Oh well I may grab a nap later this morning. It's supposed to be hot so I will sleep well. Also when we got home we still needed to feed the community cats. There are only three families living here full time and the "weekenders" don't think to feed the cats. Petey wasn't any problem. He loves to come in the house and have his meals and then catch an hour or two nap and go back outside. Spot and Harpo are a different story. They're outside cats and like to eat outside. So I got their food ready and off we went at 10:30 p.m. to feed cats. Harpo was easy, just set the food the last place you saw him, call kitty kitty kitty and he's there. Spot is also easy as he eats at one of the neighbors the next street over. We got there and the house lights were on where we deliver Spot's food so we came up normally and Spot came running. I always have to shower Spot with a lot of love or he will grab my ankles and drop anchor and not let me leave. So after I put down his food, checked his water, I picked him up and loved him thoroughly. We were just leaving when the neighbor's adult son came out looking very grumpy and sleepy (he had fallen asleep in front of the TV) and Bill told him we were feeding the cat, and off we went to come home and go to sleep ourselves. The rest you already know, other than Bill kept kicking me in his sleep. So much for a good sleeping night! I'm about to curl up on the couch right now and catch some extra sleep......YAWN!

I love the work. I couldn't do the job as a regular job, but as extremely casual labor (that's the accounting term for people who come in and work and get paid under the table) it's a blast. We get a LOT of fun characters in the shop and I have fun with the ones I get to deal with. The store used to be a car dealership. The building dates back to around the 1930's and you can pretty much figure out where everything was. Even the big rolling door for bringing in the "floor models" is still in place. One day I'll have to get a picture of the store and share it with you.

@BearArtistLady I am a substitute teacher. Also casual labour hired by the day. It is perfect to have part time work with a flexible schedule.

@paigea I love it!!! I'm stashing the money I get paid in a little nest egg for a sewing machine I want on Ebay. I'm not too far from being able to get it. Between my work day next week and taking in the recycling I should be good for the machine.
