Having a hard time staying with serving sizes on snacks?

I've told my husband's many times to pour his chips or whatever into a bowl and get refills if he's still hungry. That way at least he would be aware of each bowl he's eating. It can be a big surprise when eating out of the package directly to discover you've eaten the whole amount. Unfortunately, I give our good advice without always following it myself. I used to do as I preached but not so much in recent months. I enjoy almonds and have kept putting out additional servings since the bag is next to my computer. I also allow myself kettle popcorn made by chica chica boom (sp?) Which tastes like Carmel corn, one a month. It's so good I eat the whole bag in a day. If I'd put it away it might help some, or not. Recently I heard about the popcorn in my picture. It's made with coconut oil and only has forty calories per cup. I figure a large bowl of that is plenty and the same as one serving of most other microwave popcorn. Also, it should be easier to pour it into a bowl and hard to eat it all. The package contains 18.2 oz I've had it several days now and only had the one bowls worth, about three cups. Imagine my surprise when I noticed my husband eating right from the bag today. If he lost hold it would be all over the floor. So, I'm thinking everything should be packaged this big. I'd then have no problem staying away from eating all the contents,.What about you? Edited content and to include image which wouldn't load from two browsers. The image is sized right just glitches for whatever reason. I had to figure out how to get it from my phone to the cloud and then copy to my computer.

That is a problem. I don't snack, at least not on snack foods. I snack on fruit.

I bought two trays of cut up fruit and ate my half the first two days. The second tray began turning to quick. I've been snacking a lot less since taking time off work to keep my feet up. How is your diet going are you still following the same eating plan? I may do something different when off for my surgery.

@just4him btw muscle weighs Moore than fat not the other way way around. So be happy with the inches leaving as the day is disappearing leaving you with muscle. Usually, once the inches go the pounds will follow. It's all a process. I was in size 20w years ago but bring taller it was hidden more Then I lost thirty pounds from working more, running around at work trying to get stuff done in time and having jaw problems. For a while there it hurt to open my mouth to eat. I could fit in size 12-14 pants for the first time since high school or before age 30. After gaining 15lbs back I'm back up to size 16, but I don't like my clothes fitting right.

@MarshaMusselman Yes, I'm still following the same Whole30 plan. Right now, I'm losing the inches more than the pounds. I'll be glad when I see the pound loss again. I have a weigh in again tomorrow, but after seeing my weight at the doctor's office last week, I'm not real hopeful the pounds are coming off yet, but the inches are, and I look forward to the picture my friend will take on Tuesday. Unless there's some taken today at the graduation party I'm going to that will show the loss.

I like to buy the 100 calorie packs, this way I know how much I am eating and how many calories.

I've bought those before to, but I usually buy snacks with lower carbs more than lower calories. This porch is low in both and I had to load my picture from my computer.

I try not to snack mindlessly, while doing other things, for example. I try to think about what I an eating and why I am eating it.

I can't say I do that too much, meaning not doing anything else while having my snacks. I do try for the most part paying attention to how much I'm taking. I did buy a ninja last weekend and some veggies to use in it but I still have to get it out of the box and give it a go. Once I begin blending produce again that should help me snack less or at least not feel the need. For some reason, today, my foot is a bit more swollen than usual. I've got it up but have to do laundry yet tonight along with payroll. It could be swollen because I tried putting an extra roll of gauze on top of the bandage for extra compression. I may have done too many of them. I see the specialist tomorrow and will find out if I overdid my wrap in trying to move things along.

@drannhh I'm trying. It appears that it's trying to scab which would be great but I won't know if that's what it's doing until I see the Dr on Friday. In the meantime I seem too have gotten a stress fracture. My surgery is pushed to the end of August now which will give everything enough time to heal. As the wounds and bones heal maybe I can get my hubby to give me his Ms to send out to you via email.

I usually do not snack, but if I buy potato chips to serve with appetizers, I always place into a bowl. It is too easy to eat too much.

@MarshaMusselman I only eat one small piece of dark chocolate after dinner, while I watch the TV. I like dark chocolate and it's even healthy.

You do well if you don't snack at all, Anna. I can stay away from chips and candy when I don't bring it home it's the good things like nuts that I get carried away with. I've been doing better this week though with stocking to serving sizes. I've already lose four pounds.

Stores here selling chips flavored with salt and vinegar but I've never heard of anyone dipping into vinegar on their own.

I live popcorn and could eat an entire bag by myself if I could so I just buy the individual small serving microwavable bags. They are only 100 cal per bag so that works for me. If I had a bigger bag I would also eat from the bag- so that bowl seems a good idea.

This particular size bag is much too large to consider eating from. I'd be concerned about the whole thing dumping on the floor.

@MarymargII unless you're still hungry and choose to get up for another.

@MarshaMusselman I love those little ones that are individual size. Then there's no problem- when you're done, you're done.

You have some good ideas here. People eating directly from a package of anything could quickly find they have eaten the entire thing!

I agree and it's easy to do especially since most of us are doing other things while snacking like on our devices, or watching TV, or even visiting with friends.

I don't have much control if I have a large bag of something and do much better when I buy individual portions

If I don't buy the little packs of chips, I eat way too many. Sometimes I'll count out and package but that is too tedious. Lately, I've been trying to snack on fruit for hunger and as a desert. Today I diced some nice strawberries my daughter picked up and had a few with a dab of cool whip on top.

I definitely have to learn how to snack less and make my portions smaller. It doesn't always fill me up and that can be a real problem.

I try to wait a period of time between my meals and snacking out between each snack. I also know drinking more water is supposed to fill us up or try a healthy smoothie for in between meals if you can.

Right now, I am doing Weight Warchers. Tracking on the WW APP helps me measure out one serving and not go back for more. Usually, I have a terrible time managing my snacking.

I can usually do pretty well with Atkins as I've monitored my eating with that for many years. Orderly enough I happened too have this post open for a few days and found several comments I missed before. It's a good thing I peeked at my notifications it I'd have missed this for a few more weeks or until I had time to check out the new folks that stopped by.
