This Alexa thing is still on my mind

I wrote a discussion recently about how Alexa recorded a private conversation in a household and there was a glitch or whatever where that conversation got posted to all in the contact list.
I was just wondering whether Alexa or any other version can record anything going on at the neighbours That would be quite disturbing.
I zoom my camera and I can record chirps of birds in my garden from inside the house. If that is possible what stops this gadget which has similar features to record conversations nearby.
I feel these gadgets should be banned forthwith.

@allknowing And that can really be dangerous. No one is safe now even if there are cctv cameras around.

That's kind of worrying. I have thought of getting Alexa but not quite made up my mind. It's a bit off putting to think that it could record a conversation over a wide distance,

Anything is possible the way technology is making strides. It is indeed worrying.

As you can see glitches are possible even though they may claim they will not do it intentionally.

They have admitted their mistake. You can read it here
Amazon said that one of its Echo home speakers recorded a private conversation without permission and sent it to a person in the owners’ contact list, an incident that raises questions about the security of such voice-operated devices.

I don't think they should be banned. It warns about certain things. Maybe it can increase the security levels, but honestly, I find it no different than using an Instant messenger or texting, the company has all your texts with personal things in it as well and no one gets into a big hissy fit about it.

I am not sure if it does that now but with strides in technology anything is possible.
