I Found Them!

I have often thought about some old colleagues who worked with me 2-3 decades ago every now and then. Facebook didn't seem to give me anything when I did some searches based on their names. Today by accident, I found some of them from checking the 'Friends' list of another friend. After checking their profile photos, I know that those on Facebook are all well. What next? (I am asking myself!) Some were very sweet towards me in the past, and I am half wanting to catch up with them, but the other half of me think, 'what for?' (shrug!) I have been smart enough to hide all relevant details from my Facebook profile (even my name) from the general public and only share my private details to very close friends or friends from my same old high schools. (Those former colleagues could have got my details easily from other colleagues whom I am still in contact, but they don't so far.) Oh well... Are you 'Friends' with most of your old high school mates, former workmates etc on Facebook or on other social networks? Do you keep in touch with many of your old colleagues after leaving a certain workplace?

I am Freunds on facebook with all of them as we have a group in facebook of our old school from elementary to high school. College friends? I have them too. We don't really use the social media to keep in touch with each other. As friends, we have our phone numbers. And though we aren't as close as we used to anymore, when there are some gatherings, we still meet and when one needs help, we're just a phone call away.

@toniganzon I can't so far due to one reason or another. Then again, what am I going to talk to them old classmates? (Some searched for me, visited me in person, and tried to flirt (the males). Their reason: I used to be their idol . Nah, I was not striking or anything, just that I was their old and ancient captain who did not play with young children .)

My busy life doesn't allow me to go to any reunion so my friends (the ones who live close to me) have to resort to email or message me via phones. They do live a busy life too, so all is good.

FB is wonderful in a sense that it helps sometimes to identify some people (strangers mainly ).

i usually did not have time to do so till now so it is likely why i can not find a lot of them. i did find a friend from over 40 plus years ago. about 2 yrs ago. through a cousin of mine. on FB. you don't even have your state listed here. on FB i do have my maiden name listed also in case someone knew me earlier

@YrNemo i have my friends hidden on there now if they are not your friend also already, you will not see them. FB has changed a lot of things. you just have to know how to work it

I was naive at first, searching for old friends from old schools etc with my full name (maiden surname and all). THEN my facebook account was hacked as many other's back in 2009 or something similar, we ended up receiving junk emails from supposed friends' email addresses. After that, I had to change how my name should look on FB, also changing the email address & setting for this or that to no sharing but only to friends.

@YrNemo I did the same, only my friend can see me and I know that many did the same, so, even searching we cannot find friends anonymously. We can only see those who are already our friends.

FB could be very useful at times (for searching for old friends anonymously). (I set mine somehow so that only my friends could see me.)

@LadyDuck I am surprised that many of my former colleagues didn't know the trick to set their profile hidden from public views. But looking back, they were not too sharp in IT matter so perhaps they didn't know, still don't know or perhaps don't care.

i had a get-together affair with some of my high school classmates. about 6 years ago, we had a grand reunion from elementary and high school years. college, not much reunions, though we had get-together with 3 other classmates. i do not accept friend requests from classmates that are not close to me before and now.

@YrNemo me too. somebody from Qatar sent me a friend request. she seemed to know me fully well. i did not accept her request. later, i learned that she is the daughter of a late household helper that we had during my first year working in the secondary hospital. i still did not accept her request.

Facebook has a habit of making it like some people wanting to 'friend' us, (and vice versa). I found out later that we were sort of pushing towards each other by Facebook, especially if we have some mutual friends there. (I ignored quite a few 'friend' requests that way. I didn't really know them, and I don't think they really knew me either years ago.)

One of my old colleagues told me how upset she was when she found out other old colleagues (the not nice ones ) suddenly deleted her from their friend groups. I learn not to touch those.

I am Facebook friends with quite a few people from high school and a few old colleagues but not close friends on a personal level any longer. In many ways, it is a shame because I had a few good high school friends that I should be in more contact with but I am just not interested. My life is totally different from theirs.

@YrNemo Several people I went to high school with actually live in the same county as me now but I just have no interest or desire to hang out with them. One girl really does try to get me to come to her parties and such. I just never do.

Many of my old workmates or schoolfriends were like that. We used to be good friends in the past but we now all go different ways, having different interests. No point to keep in contact with each other.

@infatuatedbby (I am doing that to some stranger right now. He kept asking to be friend with me. I guess it is because he wanted to see my friends' photos. Lots of them are quite beautiful. I had friended with him once because I thought he was a police guy who was a friend to my little sister. I found out that I was wrong. He was just some guy who collected beautiful looking gals from FB as friends - so I stopped being 'friend' with him since.)

@sprite1950 I feel sad whenever I thought of beautiful actresses and models now turn into dry plums. It is OK for me to be aging since I am just an ordinary human being, but those beautiful people! Why?

Nope I do not do facebook, I am good with not caching up with any of them and the people that I do want to, have my phone number. But it is great for those people that do want to do it, what a great invention

Talking about giving people phone numbers, I sometimes give those who I am not so sure about, a number which only lasts for about a month time.

My husband once was very angry with his younger sister. FB alerted him every few seconds that his sister just told the public (and him) that she had to go to the toilet, she was making a coffee, she had lunch and would be back soon, etc.

That was another era. I do feel nostalgic for the "good old days" but my memory isn't what it use to be and even though we now have FB, what do I put on the search box when I can't recall their names?

@FayeHazel oh no, in this case, the wife is real in love and sweet to her husband. He is her senior by aobout 10 years while she is from an old and traditional Italian background (submissive wife etc).

This is the problem. The wife was one of my protégés and was very sweet. She was under her husband's thumb after marrying him. Both were my former colleagues. Better to leave them alone.
