Should I Use This as a Greeting Card?

Bee Foraging in Borage in April

I shared one of my borage photos here before, and I think that also had a bee. But today I found another one. I cropped it and I'm quite happy with it. I'll probably use it in one of my blogs soon. I'm also thinking of making a card on Zazzle with it. I'm trying to think of greetings to use on it. One reason I like Zazzle is because I've always loved greeting cards and after managing a card department in a bookstore for nine years, I also wanted to make my own card line. Zazzle has given me the tools to actually do that. Of course, cards don't make much income. Is there some other print on demand product you think this might work on? Do you still send greeting cards to people? Do you ever send snail mail notes on blank cards? Just wondering how much Facebook and email have changed your card-sending habits.

It would make a nice greeting card. I'm sure e-mail and FB have limited the number of cards sent out. I only give cards at holidays. Particularly Christmas.

I rarely send Christmas cards anymore unless I know someone really needs one. I never send one without a personal note attached.

I still send some greeting cards to special friends and I still exchange manually written letters with some distant friend. They like to receive nice stamps from Switzerland.

I still can't throw any pretty stamps away. What's interesting is that today in America the price of a stamp is more than the price of an average greeting card was in 1975.

@LadyDuck They are currently half a dollar here. How times have changed. When I was first married they were about three cents.

@bagarad Stamps are expensive here, this is why I only send a few greeting cards.

I think that's true of most people, but I know some people still do buy cards. I've even bought some of my own, since the quality at Zazzle is very good.

I guess most people don't. I will send one only only when there's a real need. I remember when you could buy a present for what it costs to buy and send a card in the mail today.

@bagarad I do too. You can find nice cards at most of the dollar stores. Thats where I go when I need one.

This picture is stunningly beautiful and therefore it would make an excellent gift card. Zazzle has helped you learn about card making which is excellent. How about making postcard and photo books of particular animals. Maybe theme photo books would also sell well. I will soon be giving my daughter a birthday card and present.

I'm not sure how to make a photo book, but I can make a calendar. Maybe I could make an herb calendar.

I don't send cards either, but that is a beautiful photo of a plant that has great health benefits. Borage is a food source of essential fatty acids crucial to vitality.

@drannhh Because I'm too lazy and busy with other things and I've never eaten it in anything but salads. I tend to write about what I know first-hand when possible. Hubby gives me enough homework to do for him.

This is a pretty flower and bee.. I find that sometimes those photos I take with the subject off center.. to one side or another... sell better as it leaves me room to write the greeting on the side of it.. so I started framing a bunch up that way when I shoot now so that they are ready for post cards and greeting cards... Just a thought. here is one I took recently..so you know what I mean, I have yet to add it to zazzle.. but will hopefully soon..

@bagarad Yes, it is free to use... and I have sold 3 photos so far.. a couple were small sales.. 3 and 4 bucks.. and the other was $65.63.. it all depends on what they are purchasing them for. I just keep adding to the portfolio.. just like constantly adding products to Zazzle.

@bagarad The sad side of FB and an email is that people are spoiling relationships also.

Seems like if you can find the right words, and the right occasion to set the card to it could work for sure. I still send cards, but I mostly get them on the cheap at Dollar Tree or something. The picture could work for totes or reusable grocery bags, maybe even a cell phone case or something like that. Not sure if Zazzle does any of those.

@porwest True, but it would be nice to know ahead of time before you take the time to make products if they will or won't be duds.

@bagarad Just do what the market dictates. If something does not sell you know it's a dud. But if something does...well, then you know it is a success. Trial and error.

That's neat. He is kind of hard to find. All up side down and can tell he wants that sweet nectar. That's neat, Not many pictures of bees like that. That is some dedication right there. You think people will be able to find him. Kind of like where is Waldo?

My answer is here.
The famous American photographer Garry Winogrand (1928 - 1984) said, 'I photograph to see what things look like photographed.' This may sound silly, but it's...

They are quick, but some of us still cherish getting a meaningful card with a note in it by snail mail so we can keep rereading it. I have cards I've saved for over fifty years.
