We're feeling the cold in Tasmania

We knew we were coming to Tasmania in the off-season as far as tourism goes but we weren’t too worried. However the forecast for the next four days doesn’t get above a maximum of 14C with rain every day. Because of the rain the minimum doesn’t go below 6 degrees.
In a few days, the park we are in closes for a few months, not that that will affect us. I’ve already bought fleecy pyjamas, Vince has bought a pair of long johns (but don’t tell anyone) and we’ve each bought socks designed for really cold temperatures. And I picked up a couple of extra sweatshirts.
You know it is frosty country when the entrance to the town shows a whopping great cherry. We have cherries growing in Donnybrook but it’s always touch and go if there will be enough frosts to set the fruit. We move further south tomorrow and it will be interesting to see what the next week or two has in store for us.

@topffer I'm not sure what sort of museums we'll find. It seems each town has a museum devoted to its first settlers. I always enjoy these although I think Vince might get a bit sick of them. Once you are there, they quickly become interesting.

I had no idea Tasmania was so cold but I suppose you must be going into your winter now. 14C is quite acceptable in the summer for the UK although it's about 17C here at the moment and will hopefully become higher next week.

Reminds me of the early January days when it is cold and bathing in the morning before going for work is quite a task.

Bathrooms can be very cold places sometimes, can't they?

Hi Judy. I am not a fan of cherries but that giant cherry makes me think otherwise. hehe

Good that you have prepared for the colder weather. So Vince has some long johns. Don't worry, the secret is safe with me and I won't tell anyone. I no longer hide them but tell people and lift my pant leg to show them.

@arthurchappell Thanks. If it doesn't we'll find inside things to do - museums, etc.

I knew Tasmania was located in a very southern local, but I never pictured in my mind that it would actually get cold there. But I guess it makes perfect sense given its latitudinal location.

We are opposite, its nearing 100 degrees F. We have peaches here and they require so many hours of cold to make as well.

It is so hot and humid here...A couple of more months to go.
I guess cherries won't grow here....A hilly state neighbouring ours has started planting cherry trees though and it is a tourist attraction when it flowers

We wanted to visit our son in Melbourne but we had a few commitments at home so we couldn't come at a better time weather-wise. And we didn't want to leave it to later in the year. We had intended to visit our son at Christmas but the flights didn't suit us. Then we thought we'd drive over with the caravan.
