Ouch! Someone Missed the Target

We took a pleasant walk before. The trip was not too far, only about a mile away. When we walked back, we found one of our neighbors' short brick fence in a messy state. About 10 feet width of that fence had been demolished, bricks were everywhere in a sorrowful manner. Close to that 'war zone' was a speed bump, just a couple of yards away. Some driver must have tried to avoid that speed bump by driving around it (a bit in the inside) and whacked into that unfortunate fence instead. It was obviously a hit and run case since the owner didn't seem to know about that disaster yet. My estimate would be about a thousand dollars, just to fix it. What a disaster! (Wondering if they could claim some sort of insurance?!) Do you have any fence in the front? Do you live in any stretch of the road that cars could bang into it? Ours is, unfortunately.

i hope there was a camera that was able to capture this incident. most houses here have a perimeter cement fence and metal gate.

Bet you that car would be scratched or slightly dented too.

our fence is the mark for some vehicles to not go U-turn. it is because our gate is right in front of another street. the road is Y-shaped and ours is at the corner of the intersection.

@YrNemo it is so hard to call the attention of those riders who park their cars in front of our gate.

@ridingbet In my case, those drivers would likely come from the school a few meters away. I could come to the school and complain of course (I knew the principal there, chatted with her often). BUT I don't want trouble for those young teachers .

I hope they have insurance! How awful for your neighbors. No fence or busy road here. My brother hust finished putting in a new fence around his property due to storm damage. The insurance company covered $55,000!!!

OMG! My fence, the front one, would cost only about $5K (simple timbers with pretty paints, that's all). The side might be about another $4K

That car must have suffered some damage as well hitting a brick fence. We used to live on a corner lot and had a fence that came down the side and around the corner to the driveway. It was hit many times by people who would take the corner to wide and never got anything for it as our deductible was close to amt of damage.

@YrNemo No because my deductible was almost as much as the damage so we would have ended up paying for most of it. We just left the fince down from the corner to the driveway

@cintol We might remove our front fence away too (IF anything happened badly to it), at least it would be easy to get in and out of the house.

I hope you got the insurance to help you out all those times? Lots of young drivers like to drive like mad these days. In the dark too. We often heard cars shrieking late at night. (Hope the police get them one of these days.)

I saw some more interesting works from new and young drivers: sign posts got whacked over (how did they manage to do that is above me!)

Our neighborhood is far from the road. You have to go inside a narrow road to a neighborhood that has some vacant lots with fruit trees like santol, avocado and mainly mangoes.

We are not on a main road. We have a small private road deserving the 10 individual houses in our area. No one can bank into our fence.

@YrNemo This is the problem, some small towns have become too big. My native city in Italy (Milan) had about 500,000 residents, now there are more than 3,500,000.

You are lucky. Here, cars in and out non-stop! And our streets are small too. They were made so for only about five hundred or so residents back in 1950. Now, it is about 20,000!

@LadyDuck Dear God! Do your city ended up building high rise flats to accommodate everyone? In our suburb, it is sad to see every two houses got knocked down to build a building with 60 flats. They are watching our place here, asking us to sell (repeatedly, from some Chinese developers).

Streets here are too small! And because of some good schools around (there is a very good one close by), the population in this area has been exploded more and more in a ridiculous manner (from overseas). People are killing each other to get in my suburb! (Didn't they say the same thing about cemeteries? )

I am constantly worrying of the day when some car would go a bit too far and whacked into our front fence instead. Oh well, ours is timber, and a bit old... Let hope they wouldn't kill my roses.

Good spot. No chance for flood and less risk to your fence. (Our neighbors, some got flooded badly a few years ago.)

If my current fence collapses (from old age), I might not replace it either (so that I could drive in and out easier. But then strangers could do so too , bad idea isn't it! (it is a busy street).

We don't have a fence at the front, just a small garden full of plants and flowers, so they wouldn't do much damage. Anybody who crashed into the wall separating our back garden from the street would have to be the most rubbish driver ever because it's a straight road. :)

That is the bad thing about having no fence. Even with a fence/gate here, we would every now and then, see people walk into our garden uninvited to take our flowers, it is incredible!
