Play it Again, Sam #16b - "Got to Get You Into My Life"

And now, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for what you've been waiting for! We are at #16b, the "cover" portion of today's Play it Again, Sam: Earth, Wind & Fire's cover of The Beatles' "Got to Get You Into My Life." If you are old enough, you might remember a not so good movie from 1978, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. And while the film itself may have been subpar, there is no denying the greatness of some of the musical talent used in the movie: The Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, and Earth, Wind & Fire. One of the greatest bands ever to grace the face of the Earth (as far as I'm concerned,) Earth, Wind & Fire's mission in the film was to perform "Got to Get You Into My Life." And they performed it admirably! Released as a single after being included on the band's compilation album, The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire Vol. 1, the song did quite well, reaching #1 on the Billboard Soul chart, and came close to The Beatles' #7 peak on the Hot 100, reaching #9. Oh, and they also won a Grammy Award for their effort! In addition to Earth, Wind & Fire's Gold record version, the song has been covered a plethora of times, notably by the likes of Diana Ross & the Supremes, The Four Tops, Tom Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Lou Rawls, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Matthew Sweet with Suzanna Hoff's, to name a few.
