Should schools teach children how to use social media responsibly?

Today's thought, inspired by a conversation with a relative. I'm thinking of how times have changed since I was in middle school. I think that "Social Networking and Internet Responsibility" should be a mandatory part of education, starting around grade 4 or 5, considering the young age, of some of the children with Facebook accounts, etc. Those I know who are that age on here, all have STRICT and RESPONSIBLE parents, but that can't be said about every kid in the world on the internet. Just as sex education has become a part of the curriculum for children about to reach puberty, so too should internet and social networking responsibility.

Placing strict time periods for them and monitoring their activities and using parental filters is all good.

I think it is better to teach children how to take good advantage of the internet, computer and mobile phone. As they can be addicted to it easily.

Yes it would be better to teach students about social media and other useful technology . Children are curious by nature and if left untaught, they try to get the answers by themselves which can be harmful in this case.

I definitely think that in the same way that children are taught manners at school that they should be taught how to conduct themselves online too.

You are making a good point. But I think parental guidance will take place on that matter.

I think the teachers at schools should teach them how to use them properly.

Interesting, yes they should, it should be part of the civic sense. Its a social issue and dealt with same intensity as other social issues. Why because it has a profound effect on the society and also the mental health of the person.
