myPROBLEM?

Somebody is sending me chat messages on Facebook, and this person is asking me if I know anybody who can lend money. The person needs the money on Saturday. Although I should help by asking anybody among my colleagues and friends, it seems this person has already passed the burden to me. Now, I am the one thinking about the person’s financial problem and I think this person is not searching anybody among the circle of friends if anybody can lend money to this person. I do not know if I will be able to help. Tomorrow is a non-working holiday, and I cannot just say ‘yes’ to this person and tell that I have found somebody who can loan the money. Do you take the problem of another and make it as your own?

I'm sorry you have that problem. I don't pay any attention to people who ask for money on Facebook. If they are serious about their need, they would ask in person not in social media.

@ridingbet So they used the chat feature and didn't blast it across all of FB?

this person used the FB chat because we live far from each other and that was the only means of communication that we have. good thing my sister will be the one to think about the problem.

Do you know this person well? Are they close to you? I don't like lending to people. I have been asked before when we have not talked for over 5 years. I rejected.

@ridingbet if they are someone you trust , close and you are willing to help them - then I don’t see a problem. For me, I’ve had people ask but they weren’t close to me and haven’t spoke to me in a long time so that’s why I rejected.

@minx267 i am just glad because my sister lifted my shoulder from the burden. she will do the task now; anyway, she has many friends who can lend money to her. quite a relief for me.

@ridingbet I believe you are honest, but I feel it is not right to borrow money from friends to lend another friend.

@Bosun201 the problem is already given to my sister, she will be the one to borrow from her friends.

@ridingbet I stopped lending money to others as they do not pay. My husband really gets mad but I say that at least they will not have the audacity to pay.

@mlgen1037 don't you let the lender sign a receipt even though the money loaned is just a small quantity?

If the person always paid you back, then I would help them. If I loan. and they don't pay it back then no.

the person is a good payer. when i say, 'pay in 2 months', the person does that so i have faith and confidence the amount will be paid on time.

I will not allow anybody to pass his money problem on me. I have enough problem and taking somebody else's is the last thing I will do.

Only if it is my family, kids or parents, sisters etc. I have too many problems of my own to deal with friends or colleagues problems.

I am sorry, but I do not allow anyone to stress me with their financial problems. Those who ask for money usually waste the money first and then they rush to collect what they need.

@ridingbet Exactly, too many ask money because they have not paid attention how they have spent it.

yes, especially those who are gamblers. they ask money as loan with a certain percentage yet. or a 3-month payment period with additional 5% from the amount lent.

Sometimes people should know to tell no for certain things... financial problems everyone will have..it's burden for sure...just stay away from that person

Yes many a time. But that person should be genuine. If you know him personally and know that he is not lying, then I think you should help him.

i am having second thoughts if i should ask from any of my friends and colleagues, or just say i cannot borrow because we all have no work this summer.

I think we should not help such persons unless they are asking for some genuine reason.

why would someone i don't know, borrow money from me, or ask me to find somebody to lend him money? i think that is inappropriate. and i am a person who trusts sincerely but not to the newly acquainted persons.
