I go fishing a lot with my son. I'm still getting used to the different fish in the waters here in Florida as i'm originally from NY are the fish where different there. My son managed to get a horseshoe crab on his line. It was pretty ugly, but from what i've read, they don't pinch as their claws are only strong enough to hold their food. The pointy tail is used to flip them back over if they get stuck on their back. They are being researched for medicinal uses and are bled each year to produce a substance called Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL). LAL is used to test intravenous drugs and medical equipment for the presence of bacteria and endotoxin, a poison found in many bacteria. They are collected when the come up on the beaches at a certain time of year to mate, then released safely back. Do you go fishing? What odd thing have you caught?
