Why Throw Away When You Can Craft With It?

I just finished writing an article on another site about crafting with recycle items and I just had to share with my friends here on myLot one of the cutest recycled crafts I have seen. The photo above is from Wikipedia showing roses made out of old discontinued library books. Aren't they adorable. They took pages from these discarded books and made roses out of them. They then sold them to make money to buy new books. I love the idea. The Titusville Public Library then held a class teaching other how to do this craft. I have been getting interested in trash to treasure crafting more and more lately. It seems to me that instead of throwing everything away we should try making use of it. What do you think?

I cringe at it being books they're using, but if the books are falling apart, it would be a good use for the pages. It's a good idea and the picture is lovely.

I felt the same way until I found out they were damaged books. Then the roses looked pretty.

I was cringing a bit about using the pages from old books cause I'm one of those people who doesn't turn down pages to keep my place and I wouldn't write in any of my books. But the roses are very pretty

@Marilynda1225 I don't turn down pages either. When I first heard about it I couldn't believe that a library would do such a thing. Then I found out that these were books that had been damaged or had pages missing and could not be used any more.

I'm not that crafty @HazySue but I do know how to create shade for plants I want to grow that can't tolerate the extreme heat we get.

There are so many ideas online that most people can do the simpler ones. It is truth though, some people are more crafty than others.

I agree with you, we should do more to save the things we'd normally trash or recycle. That rose is cute! I have a lot of my "oui" yogurt jars that I am saving to make candles out of. I could also probably find lids small enough to fit them or use another means of sealing the jar. If I do this I can also use the jar for lotions or possibly fit very small lotion bars in them. The jar is slightly bigger than a baby food jar.

That is a wonderful idea to not only recycle products that might end up in a landfill, but also to raise funds for the library! I wonder what other great ideas they have come up with?

@HazySue I've seen our local friends of the library group create "book-mas trees" at Christmas to sell as fundraisers. Thy stack books in such a way that the form the shape of a Christmas tree. Pretty ingenious idea.

@moffittjc It is a terrific idea to make things from the old books rather than just throw them out.

Tried to like this but the button would not go! It is a great idea to reuse everything we can. We just viewed some videos on YouTube about this. There are so many things that can have a second life.

I found a whole bunch of ideas on YouTube and the internet too. It would be a cleaner world if we could all stop and think before we throw something away. We might find a new use for the item.
