Play it Again, Sam #15a - "Stop Your Sobbing"

I swear, having to take days off is causing Play it Again, Sam to seem like it's taking forever. We have made some progress, however. As always, Play it Again, Sam is a two part discussion consisting of an original song followed by a cover of that song. We have progressed to #15a, the "original:" "Stop Your Sobbing" by The Kinks. One of the original British Invasion bands, The Kinks had such an impressive body of work, and longevity (equally impressive considering that founding members, brothers Ray and Dave Davies, really don't like each other very much,) that they deservedly landed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And it all started in 1964, with their debut album, Kinks, and their classic single, "You Really Got Me." That album, which was hastily recorded in order to take advantage of the momentum of that single, also contained "Stop Your Sobbing," track 13 on the record. An absolutely essential Kinks tune, "Stop Your Sobbing" is pure British Invasion, with a sound that rivaled anything that fellow invasionists The Beatles, or The Dave Clark Five, were putting out at the time. And yet, it was not released as a single. Weird. You probably know where I am going with this, but if not, I'll give you a hint: my cover version was recorded by a band that is also in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (Info verified by Wikipedia)
From their first LP. Later recorded by The Pretenders.

I like the Pretenders version better. They really got me with that tune, lol. Nice songwriting by Ray though among many. No sobbing at either version here

Chrissie Hynde is a great songwriter, but when she chooses to do a cover, it turns out awesome!

@dgobucks226 - It's still my favorite by them, although Pretenders II is a close second!

"Met a girl called Lola and I took her back to my place..." Amazing how easily they adapted to each decade.

I have consulted the brass in my pocket and have no clue! The answer must be in the middle of the road somewhere.

Such a great band. The first time I saw The Pretenders, Ray Davies came out and did the encores with them. Awesome!
