I am sure I have talked about this book here before, I am even more sure that I've recommended it. It was a book that took me by surprise. It was one that I didn't intend to read but was glad I started it. It's suspenseful, it's dramatic and it's even a little romantic. The description of the city at the time (late 1800's) was magnetic. The way you feel towards the main character is electrifying. You will probably hate the female lead at times, and you'll despise Edgar Allen Poe at times as well. You'll be twisted up about Mrs. Poe. Do you like her? Do you hate her? These are all things I can remember feeling. I don't really remember enough to give my own synopsis on the book, but then that's what goodreads is for isn't it? The author of this book just so happens to spell her name the same way I spell mine.
A vivid and compelling novel about a woman who becomes entangled in an affair with Edgar Allan Poe—at the same time she becomes the unwil...

Ooh this looks good. I love historical fiction, which I'm guessing that's what this is.

Yeah it's historical fiction with supposed elements of truth. I don't really know anything about Edgar Allen Poe's real life or marriage so I'm not sure what is and isn't true. I haven't tried to find out either because I didn't want it to ruin the way I saw the book. She also has a book about Mark Twain.

@thislittlepennyearns I love the genre as well. I tend to read more books based between 1700-1930 but I've read before and after that era. I look forward to your discussions on it.

The same author has also done a book on Twain. Same concept of this one, just Twain. I will probably read that at some point as well. I hope you enjoy this one when you pick up a copy.

It isn't just about the romance. It's about a woman poet trying to make it in a male dominated field as well. There is a lot of very good descriptions of how New York would have looked in the late 1800's as well.
