Yard Sale Humpty Dumpty

You may or may not have noticed, but I like to take pictures of my mountain bike leaning on stuff, and I post discussions about those photos here. One of the first leans that I posted was my bike leaning next to a sculpture of Humpty Dumpty in Downtown Colorado Springs. Turns out that we have more than one Humpty sculpture. There are four that I am aware of, with each Humpty involved in a different activity. The bronze Humpty Dumpty sculptures are created and made by Minneapolis, Minnesota artist Kimber Fiebiger, who, while she does make other sculptures, is best known for her Humpties, which are prominently displayed in cities across the United States. Our original Humpty sculpture was first submitted for the annual Colorado Springs Art on the Streets contest in 2002, after which three more Humpties were commissioned and placed around the Downtown area. This isn't the best photo due to the fact that this particular Humpty is sitting up on the overhang of a building, but it's the best I could do without getting up onto the roof, which would probably be frowned upon by both building management and the Colorado Springs Police Department. As you can see, the Humpty in question is, as befitting our fine state, skiing. However, he appears to have caught some air and looks terrified. In fact, judging from his expression, he knows that he is about to crash and hold a yard sale (if you don't ski, a yard sale is when you wipe out and lose your ski's and poles. It's hilarious when someone else does it. When you yourself do it, not so much.) This is my favorite of the Colorado Springs Humpty Dumpty sculptures, because it's funny. After all, because he's an egg, he's gonna roll. And roll. And then he's going to have to hike a long way back up the hill to retrieve his equipment. Like I said, hilarious!
