It is shocking to note that U2 has been one of the world’s top bands for nearly 40 years. In fact U2 is among the biggest sellers in history. Everything released is seemingly quadruple platinum. The group written “Angel of Harlem” is from their mega-album “Rattle and Hum.” The song charted at Billboard #14 and Mainstream Rock #1. “Angel of Harlem” is another heavily played U2 song. “Birdland on fifty-three The street sounds like a symphony We got John Coltrane and a love supreme Miles says she’s to be an angel Lady got diamond eyes She sees the truth behind the lies” Bono stated the song is an homage to Billie Holliday and New York jazz scene thus the references. Holliday is “Lady Day” and the angel. John Coltrane you know. Miles is Miles davis. Birdland refers to Charlie Parker. “Angel of Harlem” is U2 in their 80s prime.
Smile Jamaica Benefit Concert, 16 October 1988 at The Dominion Theatre, London.
