The United States Paralympic Committee

Unfortunately, I've never seen them on TV, which hopefully will change, because Paralympic sports and athletes are gaining a foothold in the world of sporting competition. The headquarters of the United States Paralympic Committee are located in the offices of the United States Olympic Committee, right here in Downtown Colorado Springs. Subject to the rules and controls of the International Paralympic Committee, the organization is responsible for organizing the participants in International Paralympic competition, including the Paralympic Games. The Paralympic Games are held in both Summer and Winter, and immediately follow the Olympic Games, in the same host city. The games follow the same multi-sport format of the Olympics, and features athletes with physical disabilities, including those with mobile disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy. Frankly, these men and women are badasses. One morning, a couple of years ago, I was out on a long bike ride. I was riding pretty strong, and a couple of guys wearing official Team USA jerseys blew by me as if I was standing still (this was not surprising. They are, after all, World Class cyclists, and they were catching and passing everyone. I, on the other hand, am, well, me.) However, I did notice that one of the guys had only one arm, and with that one arm, he was a better cyclist, and bike handler, than everyone on the road that day. As they say in the hip hop community, RESPECT! (Photo by me) (Info verified by Wikipedia, US Paralympic Website)

Yes, these athletes deserve much respect. Related note: In Oregon, the Special Olympics in Oregon has been canceled for 2018 by the new leader, saying they don't have the money to pay last year's bills or stage this year's games.

It's astonishing that there's no coverage of things like this (the Paralyzed Veterans Association "wheelchair games" will be here next year) on any of the "sports" channels. I yearn for the days when ESPN carried Aussie Rules Football. Maybe they could've covered this back then, instead of their 24/7 coverage of Tom & LeBron & Tiger.....

We just had the Warrior Games here at the Air Force Academy. Disabled veterans from the US, UK, Canada, and Australia compete in various sports. Lots of people go, but the only coverage consists of highlights on the local sports cast during the news, although our local Sports Talk Radio station does broadcast the local show live from the games, with lots of interviews with the athletes. I miss Aussie Football, too. I used to watch it all the time. So cool!

Me too. But it has nothing to do with LeBron, so they won't televise it.

I haven't picked up a tennis racquet in years. There is a very good chance that I wouldn't score a point.
