Young Boy got comatosed and his bones broke for snacking on gummy vitamins for daily basis

When I was a kid, I admit I love the taste of Flintstones chewable vitamins that even as an adult I still take them but in right dosages. So what will happen if you overdose in Vitamins? An upper middle class single mother decided to immigrate to the US so she and her young son can have a new life after her husband left her. Her son loves eating gummy candies. Being a foreigner, she is not aware that chewable vitamins are not candies. In her country candies are in bottles so she got that assumption. Her son eats 120 capsules a day. The overdose on his body corroded his bones, It got his stomach bloated and eventually the boy is comatosed. I don't know how many of you guys grew up on chewable vitamins but I am sure some of you are glad your parents control your dosage. Source:

So sad to know about it! luckily in India we don't get any such products easily available for the Kids. These things are to be taken under the supervision and advise of an expert! I pity for the mother and the child! Thanks!

Many of the modern ones tasted exactly like gummy bears. You wont be thinking it's vitamins.

It is a sad story. I have never had gummy vitamins. I have never seen them in the Danish shops, but they might exist.. My mother gave me ordinary vitamin pills. I hated them and I definitely didn't eat too many!

@CaptAlbertWhisker Yes, the old vitamins don't cause addictions. I have never tried the gummy vitamins, but I guess the taste is very different.

@Porcospino They tasted like those sour and sweet gummy candies. The sugar coated gummy bears.

I think the old school vitamins kids hate seemed like a better option so kids wont be addicted and sneak out at night to chew some.

I think the mom mistake them for candies since the bottles have cartoon characters.

That is so sad! I really do dislike how they market kid vitamins and health products as if they are like candy/toys. I don't buy the gummies- so I don't even know if they have a warning label. I feel so bad for the child and mom. I had no idea that could happen. I know that similar bad health things can happen when people play doctor and mix vitamins + over the counter suppliants..... But kid chewy vitamins??

Commercials like this give moms the assumption they are safe. Well they are safe in the right dosage. I know there are parents who make their kids eat these like snacks because they think it is nutritious. Well it is nutritious but kids should not overdose.
Treehouse Vitamins now available in gummies! Look for Treehouse Kids Supplements in pharmacies, grocery stores, and health food stores across North America. ...

Even if one mistakes them for candies, 100+ in a day is too much. It sounds insane. Poor child and his mum

120/day???? Even if they were just candies, that's not healthy at all, think of all the sugar for instance. It doesn't matter what it is, if you abuse it, it'll get back at you. I can hardly believe such things, I mean, use your common sense people! Sad, this is very sad...

@CaptAlbertWhisker, yes, he is a kid. And that's why adults take care of children, they have little to no knowledge at all about the world. Would you let your kids eat hundreds of candies/day? Or eat TIDE pods??? I don't think so...
