It is not a common practice in our country, or maybe just not in my family? Giving tips to beauty services like facials, haircut. But a friend of mine mentioned that she always does it, when she goes for underarm wax so it made me think too. But i am always so thrifty so i have never done it Is it mandatory where you live?

Its not mandatory its just a nice thing to do for extras but some things have changed. I remember seeing my grandmother give tips to people who pushed her shopping cart to the car and loaded the groceries into the car on her behalf. Now a days? I don't know anyone who allows tips to be given at grocery stores! I've tried to give it and been told they are thankful but can't accept it! When I worked in retail, it depended on the manager on duty if we were allowed to accept a tip or not. More often than not, they really wanted to give you a good tip especially if you told them about good sales and even better coupons! 10% off a fine jewelry item purchase or big home store purchase can really add up for a great savings. I think all restaurants need tips - but a few have gone away with them here and just charge a fee. I tried to tip a few at fast food places because I felt awful when one of my kids left a mess as a baby learning to eat. They said they can't accept it. I still left a few dollars on a napkin.

@lady1993 It doesn't usually - I felt bad when I realized that the delivery fee pizza places didn't go to the driver. I thought that was the new thing in place of tipping. It just goes to the company.

Greetings, It's not pretty common in here. Brazilians believe their taxes are overcharged. Therefore, it's not too common for people to give out tips. Plus, people don't have much money in here. There's a law, though, that restaurants can charge 10% of service taxes, or "tip", if you prefer. But in the end, the consumer might decide not to pay for it. Regards.

Our taxes are high here too, and most restaurants have service fee already so I do not give tips at all

Many restaurants already include a service charge which effectively should include the tip for the staff. When I was in the USA a couple of years ago a waitress was so rude and told me DON'T Forget my tip, I was not amused I thought it very rude. I said I will give you a tip try and be polite and don't demand! In some cultures it is felt to be quite rude for someone to leave a tip!

People really do have different cultures all over the world. What's acceptable for some can be rude to others. Anyway, staff that are rude should be reported though

Not really. But if the service provided exceeds my expectations, I sometimes give tips.

How can tips be mandatory? They can only be customary or not. In Germany, tips are usually given. The price is rounded up to the next round number. For example, if you have to pay 47, you give 50. In Germany, 10% of the price in a restaurant is already for the service. But people give tips nevertheless. In the USA, waiters live only from tips. This leads to the strange custom that when an American waiter or waitress spot a foreigner, they tell you, "Tips are not included." With this they remind you that if you don't leave a tip, they earn nothing at all from you.

No I have never given tip like this. At restaurants, small tip to waiter is common in India.
