I Only Asked For A Few, But She Gave Me A Lot

Last Sunday, I asked from a neighbor by the path, where I always pass by whenever I go out of the neighborhood to ride a jeepney, for some moringa leaves which as you can see in the picture is just on the side of the pathway fronting their house.
She planted them and she told me I can always ask should I need one.
So, when I asked for some, I was surprised she cut the highest big branch and gave them to me. She said it’s already blocking the electrical wires.
She also said I can always ask for the yam leaves if ever I will cook some also.
What a kind neighbor we have. And to think, I befriended her by giving nice comments of how nice her hands are in planting whenever I see her planting by the sides of those pathways.
It pays to be friendly, right? Do you have a friendly neighbor too?

@SIMPLYD I think so too. Most people here have no manners and think they are better than the others.

She's a housewife so every morning, as I go out of the neighborhood to get a ride to work she's there trimming her plants. That's actually not hers since it's part of the road. But she was so gracious to put some plants to make that pathway nicer.
So, everytime she's there while I passed I greet her and talk to her a bit.

@garymarsh6 You are funny!
But if my neighbor is like that, I would also distance myself from her.

@SIMPLYD We are friendly up to a point. She is a very very nosy woman so we try to keep a bit of a distance. I must admit I used to call her 'Ogle Eyes' because she was always trying to look to see what we were doing, what we bought etc etc. My wife scolded me one day because she could not remember her real name when she met her in town one day and could only remember 'Ogle Eyes'. I laughed I thought it was hilarious

You are lucky to have a neighbor like that. But honestly seldom we find a neighbor here in our country that is not friendly. Mostly if not all are friendly and generous. I guess it's one of the beautiful traits the Filipinos have.

I very much agree. It is innate in us Filipinos to be friendly and helpful.
Besides, if we have something to share with our neighbors like mangoes in our backyard, we give some to them if they ask.
Here, in our neighborhood, we have each a mango tree.

I put them in my soupy dish of chicken pieces, sauteed first in slices of onions and ginger and fish sauce. Then , we put broth and let it simmer. Then when it's done we put some moringa leaves and let it boil for 5 minutes and you have the "tinolang manok" or soupy chicken with ginger strips.

our moringa tree is already deep-rooted and some of its branches are always pulled down when we have typhoons. but even then, even just a branch that stands on the ground, without being dug in, can already grow and have leaves.
our moringa tree has some fruits now, and when i saw them yesterday, they were already dry. our neighbors and other passersby would just pick or snap some leaves for the 'ulams'.

@ridingbet No wonder, they just get the leaves without asking permission.

@SIMPLYD it is at the backyard, my lady. the branch that our neighbor asked, is already growing bigger and the leaves can be 'stolen' by passersby.

You don't have to always ask for those moringa leaves. You can plant a branch and it easily grows. It even grows if you just let it lean on a wall even if the bottom stands on concrete. I have a moringa plant and it grows so fast that I even but the tall branches and just throw them away.

Actually, my hubby stuck the branch near the concrete wall in the backyard. I hope it can also grow into a tree because I love putting it on my "cosido".
That time when I asked I cooked "tinola". Since I don't have the young leaves of the long chili, I put some moringa leaves instead.
Do you like moringa leaves cooked in coconut milk with shreds of "tinapa" and sliced long chili?

Yes. Well, they are more than enough for her family to cook or put in soups. She has to share because it branches out easily.

I can understand you feeling that way. Imagine they live in squatter area, yet they feel like they are the riches or simply put, are arrogants.

Actually, she didn't plant for me.
She planted it of course for themselves.
But since she planted them by the roadside as you can see in the picture, then anyone passing by there can get without her knowledge especially that their gate is concrete and people passing by, cannot be seen at all if you are inside their premises.
