Do you admire looking at water color or oil paintings? Or maybe even acrylic? Which do you think would be the most difficult method? Why do like one over the other? Have you ever done water or oil painting? Maybe acrylic? Photo- youtube.com

Hi DB. I am not keen in paintings. As long as they are beautiful in my eyes, it wont matter. I am after the artistic creation.

Yes, me too! It would be nice to have the skill and patience to paint wouldn't it. Both water and oil painting each have their special beauty

@dgobucks226 Exactly. I could not even paint using the water color back in grade school.

@mlgen1037 I would probably do best with the paint by numbers sets I admired my Mom's artistic talent and she won a few ribbons at local art events which was really cool. Unfortunately, I did not inherit her artistic ability

@dgobucks226 Oil paints have more pigment, allowing more vivid colors.Water colors dry much quickly and it is very difficult to correct mistakes. Water colors is safer, because oil paints tends to build up fumes and you need to use of paint thinners and turpentine to clean the brushes.

What do you enjoy about each discipline? My Mom also painted with both but never asked her preference (wish I had). I know you can paint over a mistake with oils. With water the paint dry's faster and can be more difficult to correct errors. Is that right?

@LadyDuck Yes right about the odor! And my Mom also had to buy an easel for painting oil.

I love looking at paintings by good artists. I have a preference for water colours because of the smudgy texture.

Oil painting can be a bit messier with cleanup. No odors with water color and no special equipment like an easel stand. A nice watercolor shading is quite attractive

I have done both and acrylic and I think I enjoy acrylic most, followed by watercolor. Though I do favor watercolor when it comes to other people's works. I am not a fan of oils at all but can appreciate artwork done in that media. Too much cleaning and waiting involved for me.

Yes, that is a drawback with oil painting. Also more equipment is needed so more expense I would imagine. I would think watercolor might take a bit more skill too. Mistakes would be more difficult to correct since the paint dries quickly.
