Back to the old fashioned umbrella

I am tired of those folding umbrellas that stay foldied when I most want them unfolded. Many a time they get stuck and refuse to open or even turn up when there is heavy breeze. Even the best quality folding umbrellas have no guarantee that they will behave. Then there is the problem of leaving those umbrellas in shops and taxis.I have lost count of the number of folding umbrellas that I have lost.

I never use them, they get between me and the rain.

I don't like the folding ones as well but it's convenient when you just have to bring one just in case.

You are right about that 'just in case' situation

The quality of the old umbrella is really better than that of the folding umbrella.

That is true. Umbrellas nowadays cannot guarantee you will not be wet when it is raining.

They are a handy size but pretty useless during a downpour especially if there is a little breeze they just blow inside out. A golfing umbrella is usually much better as it more or less covers you completely

I don't like umbrellas. I always seemed to get poked by them because people are scuttling along with their heads down and not looking where they are going.

@allknowing Yes, I remember the song. I have a cheap plastic poncho affair that I wear but mostly I seem to be able to dodge the rain by not going out in it.

But those folded umbrellas are more compact and easier to carry.

What good is a compact and easy to carry umbrella if it does not serve the purpose?
