As I alluded to Paul Harvey earlier, now, you will know the rest of the story. We are at #13c, the "cover" portion of Play it Again, Sam: the Butthole Surfers' cover of the Guess Who's "American Woman." You should know by now, that if I have the opportunity to use the Butthole Surfers, one of my all-time favorite bands, in a music series, I'm damn sure going to use them. The Butthole Surfers, a psychedelic punk band from Texas, often delve into the experimental side of music, and such was the case with their second full length album, 1986's Rembrandt Pussyhorse. Containing Surfers classics such as "Creep in the Cellar," and "Whirling Hall of Knives," the album also featured the band's highly experimental cover of "American Woman," a drum-heavy number full of tape loops, distorted vocals from Gibby Haynes, and the usual stellar guitar play from the tragically underrated Paul Leary (who also played bass on the record.) The Swedish hard rock/metal band, Krokus, did a bang up cover of "American Woman," but like I said, when I get the chance to go with the Surfers, I go with them! I guarantee that you never in your wildest dreams have you heard a version that sounds remotely like this! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I hate surfers they are such buttholes. Always saying get off my wave. I am like dude hope that lady smashes you into those rocks. Next thing you know they got smashed into those rocks. I am like oops, but mother nature has spoken and you were in the wrong. Reason she spared me is because knew it was her wave from the start and you did not respect that so she made you see the error of your ways. This song is cool drums are fun.

Laid back stoner surfers are cool, though. Like Jeff Spicolli!

@teamfreak16 I know and says something when you call yourself after a perception. That is how you know they are cool. People never realize little things like that though. I always respected this band even though not quite my style but always fun listening to their take. Its neat for real.

@crossbones27 - The story is that they were playing a gig under their actual name, but the DJ introducing them forgot the name, panicked, looked down at the setlist, saw the song "Butthole Surfer," and introduced them as such. The name obviously stuck.

I did! I do like to throw one out there every once in awhile. Figure today was as good as any since I haven't been around for a few days.
