Which marijuana should you buy?

With marijuana legal in California, even for recreational use, I've grown curious about the various "strains" of marijuana that are available at local "marijuana stores." I decided to do a little empirical research, and what I found is that you can buy marijuana, marijuana cookies, marijuana gummies, and THC "capsules," all at your local store. Then I decided to do a little "literature review" on terms I'd never heard in my youth, like Sativa, and Indica. According to contemporary pothead lore, Sativa yields a more "cerebral" high, while Indica yields a more "mellow" high. So if the pot of your youth made you a bit paranoid, you should probably go with Indica. But if you want to sit around your house and write existential poetry which includes nuanced ties between Camus, Nietzsche, and Jim Morrison, you should probably go with Sativa. Then I read an article that said that the "kind of high" differences between Sateva and Indica were a myth, and that the only (or main) difference between the two was that one plant tends to be tall and slender (I forget which), while the other tends to be shorter and wider, more like a bush. Enter THC v. CBD. The same article said that THC v. CBD is what you should be looking at. THC is what we all know to be the mild hallucinogen in marijuana. It gets you high," or "gets you stoned." But CBD is what kills pain. If you have lower back pain, or arthritis, CBD-based products may be the way to go. My empirical research showed me that the percentages of both THC and CBD are shown on the labels of every container of marijuana at the marijuana store. There are also "menus" at every store. So you can research what strain (they often have "cute names" like "Purple Mr. Nice," and "Avocado Revolution") works for you. The people I see smoking the most pot in California? Late 60's and early 70's Baby Boomers who have had medicinal cards for years. Do they share it with their stoner/musician/watch-the-stars friends? Heck yes! That's a part of what made me curious. I hope this information was clearly presented (in spite of the Scotch I'm sipping) and of help to you in some way.

If I was to buy any, I would prefer the gummies. I would also go for Purple Mr. Nice. He sounds like a good one

Purple Mr. Nice is high in THC and low in CBD, so it would not be my "strain" of choice (trying to reduce lower back pain). But it's an Indica, not a Sativa, so it should be good if want to feel mellow, not paranoid. At least according to "stoner lore."

@TheHorse You really got some info. I would still go for Purple Mr. Rain to feel mellow

All very good info If I ever have the need or want to start smoking "the Mary Jane" thank you for the time you invested in your empirical research and sharing what knowledge you gained with us!

It was fun to do! I finally decided I wanted to understand what was up with all of these "nuanced" terms like "Sativa" and Indica."

@minx267 I had over the last year or two, but I'd never researched them.

You are defaming Baby Boomers...poor us...we had no role to play in our parents doing what they did. We also have no role in sharing the pot, people want to try, and we try to ensure they are getting the right kinda stuff...on the whole, we have very honorable intentions.

One has to be careful with edibles. They take time to "come on," so there is the temptation to eat two brownies instead of one. That could land you on the couch for the afternoon.

It's illegal in Australia although they do seem to be softening their stance on it. I know nothing about it really so found your information interesting. I know our son says he can't sleep without it.

Wow, can't decide which one to choose if I'm there. It lost it's appeal when it has been legalized though.

Would that be among the very young?
