Many would place “Angel” at the top of the list as it is a good and quite popular song. Sarah McLachlan seems to have faded away. The Canadian singer enjoyed major success in the 90s with several hits, winning two Grammy Awards and headlining the Lilith Fair tours. “Angel” debuted on the “Surfacing” album and went gold at Billboard #4. The song was prominently featured in the Nicolas Cage-Meg Ryan movie “City of Angels” whose soundtrack went #1. Written by McLachlan, “Angel” was inspired by the 1996 heroin overdose death of addict keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin of the Smashing Pumpkins. She performed the song in somber fashion at the piano with just a bass player. “Angel” can be heard in many TV shows like “Dawson’s Creeks,” “Cold Case” and “Felicity.”
