Hot enough for ya? We failed our hydrocarbon emissions test today. So we won't be contributing for a while at least to global climate change. In spite of us having to either fix it or save up for another vehicle. It will take a year or more to save enough for a reasonable second hand car. For that much time to go by without the use of a car will be the ultimate challenge for my wife and myself. But we were driving it in the heat without air conditioning working properly, so it may just be a mixed blessing in disguise. I have put all the money I intend to put into that CADDY LACKING any real value. 1. The AC don't work on it. 2. Well, at least it has 4 new tires ... Good Year 3. The ABS anti-locking brake computer is shot to HILL. 4. The radio, CD- changer, with surround sound speakers don't work. 5. The rear shocks are shot to HILL. 6. The rear trunk pull down motor is gone. Well, isn't that enough reason to stop driving it? If the car had just 2 more years to go, it would be 25 years old, an antique, an would not have to pass emissions. But then, it always could get fixed. The thing is, if I don't hang on to it until I have a second one to replace it, it would be like throwing good money after bad. The thing is, the car still is drive able. It's just that after the mechanic ran the motor at high speed for emissions testing, the hydrocarbon was just around 50 parts per million, nowhere near the standard range of 220 PPM. The thing is, it passed on all counts that is, until running the low speed emissions test, then all of a sudden the oil dripped on the manifold either from the oil pressure switch or sending unit or some oil got on the exhaust from the leaking rear main motor seal. Whatever, when the oil change put the level back up to normal, the pressure was a bit high for an old car with several oil leaks, so at high speed, it got hot and some of it , the oil, got on the engine and smoked and the wind blew the smoke from that oil dripping on a hot motor sending it to the rear of the car where the sensor picked up a reading of about 550 parts per million and failed our car. FAILED THE TEST. not good. Sad day for a collapsitarian living in the end times with only public transportation or foot power at my disposal for a year or longer. So our carbon foot print won't be too high for a few months. Any way, another car might run cleaner than the 1995 CADDY NORTHSTAR 4.6 L Seville SLS piece of junk.

Can you try the test again? Maybe fix a leak or 2 and try to get it to where it is an antique. You might be able to get a little more money for it then.

I could keep it and fix it but still I need to get another car. It may take a long time but it will be worth the effort.

@lookatdesktop We dont have to get them tested here thankfully. I am looking for a good used truck as I miss the one I sold a few years ago. It seems when I find one in my price range it sells fast.

@wolfgirl569 A truck is a wise choice. It serves both as a means of transportation and doubles as a means to transport cargo from place to place. Many people in Dallas, TX drive pickup trucks. They are very common here. They come with AC navigation stereos and automatic transmissions too.

I have managed to keep the old car running for so long it is terrible to not make it to the old girl's 25th anniversary - when I can declare the Caddy Lack an An Teek.

Dear friend, maybe you should buy a new car. The car has been in use for 25 years, and it is so great. I think it has accomplished its mission.

It managed to last 25 years almost. Yep. I guess I can say mission accomplished.
