The smart phone ate it

Ate what? Well for one ,my wrist watch and lots of others besides.Once upon a time it was THE gift when we had to sit for our class 10 board exams. How proudly my friends wore their first wrist watches.Steel bands with blue or white faces. Then there were those pretty golden ones to wear for special occasions, like a bangle and different coloured leather straps to match the outfits. No longer do they sit pretty on our wrists, we pick up the phone and check the time. Then the alarm clock with its button which we would push sleepily in the morning as we hid our heads under the pillow for another snooze.Well, that is gone too. There is the alarm app on my mobile and it works like my old clock. I used to carry a small notepad in my purse for lists and things. Shopping and to do lists or things to pack before a trip. No longer ,do I scribble with a pen . My son installed a notepad app. The camera which as newly weds we saved up to buy discussing the pixels versus costs .It lies in some corner in the cupboard.Need a photo, just point and click, your phone. The paperbacks on trips.A couple of novels easily fit into my phone. Only a handy charging point is to be located. The train timetable listing information on all trains , that is gone too.Thete is a railway app which tells me how to plan my trip and spots my train when I travel. All these and much more of the once indispensable objects of my past are gone.Eaten up by the smart phone!

I still wear a wrist watch and would not be able to manage without one. I can look at my watch discreetly at any time. I only use the phone for emergencies.

indeed, a smart phone is truly smart as long as the battery is full-drained.

I know about cameras...oh yeah...dad has a Yashica and a Nikon and they remained in the locker for ages...now they lie ...god knows where. LOL. Dear god even Rolex is affordable now...back then casio was the only one all around. I am still left to wonder how come we don't forget smartphones as often as we forget our umbrellas. LOL

I wear my wrist watch every day, I would never go out without it. Do you imagine having to use your phone to check the time while you work in the garden with dirty hands? I am not a phone fanatic, I use it to make... well phone calls.

That's what a phone should do ..Make and receive calls but nowadays it does that and more. Good to read responses saying the watch is still worn

@LadyDuck I had this lovely gold one with a tiny face that was like a bangle...One day I lost it when the clasp came undone ...I came and retraced my steps but someone picked it up by then Of course watches do become pieces of jeweller too and also fashion statements. But what I am talking about is the ordinary wristwatches which mostly everyone for and now look at their mobiles instead

You are much more progressive than I am, although I've had smartphones for years. I still wear my watches, use a large calendar, and keep a notebook in my purse and cars. I do take photos and videos with my phone and let our new video camera and other cameras collect dust - wherever they are. lol

Your watches must be fashion statements...It's like an accessory. It is always nice to wear a fab watch . The calendar in the house is rather necessary and seeing the dates on the phone is only when there is no calendar on the wall where I am

I hadn't thought about this but you are so right! So many things taken over by the phone - and I don't even have one I shouldn't be putting a sad face as it's actually my choice.

I used to read ebooks with my old Iphone 3. With the current one, I haven't got the time yet to figure out how to do it. (Haven't figured out how to use it as an alarm either. Used to be so good with the Iphone 3 but my memory and patience are a bit bad these days.)

Yes, sometimes the phones are smarter than we want them to be. Anyway I always have lots of actual books around. The alarm app is convenient though

I totally agree. Though, until now, I like having a wristwatch. It would be inconvenient for me to get my phone from my bag if ever I am riding in a public transport, just to see what time is it already. It is still convenient to have a wristwatch and also classy.
