Some so called "charities" are just scams or outright fraudulent. These outfits make it so much harder on sincere creditable charities that put most of the donation to do the work they are promising to do. I used to set aside money from my check for United Way years ago. I stopped when it was reported an executive using donations to get themselves a luxury automobile. Now, I'm skeptical of charities, so I do my homework. Someone suggested this site, but I haven't checked it out yet.

Unfortunately I don't trust in all those charity bodies, I think it's better to go and help personally to whom really need help.

Hi Fpoolbum. I agree that there are some charities that are either scam or fake. I give to charities but only to those I have seen personally and my parents have recommended. I am not east on giving money to those charities that have worthless causes.

I thought these things only prevail in developing Countries, I am taken aback to see that in US also you have such people! Developing Countries - Small Scammers, Developed Countries Big Scammers! Thanks!

I definitely agree. Though we donate it in goof faith and though it is a small amount, it is nice to hear that those charities will use it for their personal motives

I have heard this before so I don't donate to them anymore, if I know someone needs help we start a Go Fund Me for them or a collection on our own and give the money directly to them. Its sad that charitable corporations take such advantage of situations like this to feed their own pockets and take away from the people that truly need it.

This is why I never donate to charities, because I'd never know where it'll go to. I'd rather give it personally to those I see who are in need. I also don't give cash, I personally give food and clothes, etc. since there are also a lot of scams out there.

All the big outfits like United Way, Cancer Society and Red Cross all have fat cat people at the top. They have been exposed.

There are many executives of charities making lots of money from donations. There is a charitable organization in my city that is supposed to be a "Not for Profit" organization and the CEO is getting rich off of it. He runs a furniture bank, a food bank and a thrift store. The furniture in the furniture bank is all brand new furniture, DONATED by furniture and department stores, and this guy CHARGES low income people $30-$50 for it and it is all funded by the government. All of the items they sell at the thrift store is also donated. He spends nothing for what he is given, yet charges the impoverished through the nose for it.
