Is everything on the internet true

Agra, India

These days if we want answer to any query then the first thing we do is to check in on thte internet. Undoubtedly it has loads of information on evey topic. But do you really feel that everything which is uploaded on the internet is true. Does the text goes through a quality check before it is uploaded on the web?

Hi my friend. Not all in the internet is true. That is why it is important to be critical at all times.

Anyone can post anything on the Internet and there are absolutely no 'quality checks' on its truth or accuracy unless, of course, the person posting the information is reliable and has done their own checking. There are some sites which we can learn to trust but there are many whose veracity is, to say the least, questionable. From the Internet I can learn, for example, that the Earth is flat, that the terrible destruction of the World Trade Center in September 2011 was an 'inside job' or that unicorns exist.

I always try to look for authentic sources like Wikipedia but still there are many times when I have to look for other sources as well. It is then the problem arises

@TheHorse I think that you'll like this little piece of magic written by Bill Caddick and here sung by June Tabor.
June Tabor's version of the Bill Caddick song. From the 2003 compilation album "The Definitive Collection" Originally from the 1977 album "Ashes and Diamonds"

@amitkokiladitya Let me give you an example. If I am searching for health issues the names of sites such as Mayo Clinic would come to mind. If I want info on Aloe Vera there again a site that comes from an ayurvedic college would be my choice.

I do a lot of research on the web. I don't look at just one site, but many, and if they are all in agreement, then I expect it's true, though I know not everything on the Internet is true. It's good to research and check many sources to get the truth of the matter.

Internet is the sourse of exposing the lies of Presstitute paid mafia media, sharing real news by people, and also a place of spreading rumors and lies. I always check first and then come to a conclusion.

@amitkokiladitya Recently Rahul Gandhi has promised to cultiwate popato on the Moon; I don't know if I post on internet, then it would be described as rumor or real. Maybe also stupidity and jokes are promoted in social media.

You need to your wisdom and experience to check if the information you are gathering through various sites have some veracity or not. If you are in doubt, cross check it with some authentic source.

@amitkokiladitya Yes because some are not thinking at all or just too.gullible to believe something which is obviously fake. While there are some that appears believable that people are deceived or misled. There are a lot of "fake fact" circulating the net which can fool anyone.

Nope. A lot of information in the internet are inaccurate. Anyone can just post information and claim it as the truth. Sadly, a lot of people post/share stuff without even confirming it, leading to misinformation.

@amitkokiladitya Exactly. I make sure to confirm if it's the truth through research, and if i can't, I just shut up since I don't know anything. It's better to keep silent than give false information.
