Raspberry Fever

This time of year grabs me by the seat of my britches. The raspberry canes are starting to produce fruit. Our luscious home strawberries are done for but raspberries are coming in, making me feel better. Tonight I went out again and wrestled in amongst the canes. The ripest berries hide. Those canes are very scratchy; there are fine hairs on the long green canes and if I'm not careful I'll come away with sore fingers cause of raspberry stickers. I picked about a pint of berries tonight. There are more that are almost ripe so with our summer heat filled days, I'm sure I'll be out carefully examining the raspberry jungle super soon.

@mawdest Washington state has many climates and habitats. I live in the middle where there is sage brush and colder winters than West of the Cascades. Seattle is West, where its wetter, especially in the winter.

@mawdest Yes, we have a little strawberry patch. Fresh strawberries are so sweet. I've heard that Ontario, Canada is cold but beautiful.

I love raspberries. If I grew them, I'd use the leaves for tea.

@sallypup I am not sure. I do know that the leaves from the plant is what tea is made out of. Well, I do think Celestial Seasonings Tea uses the raspberry themselves (their tea is read in hue, where as Traditonal Medicinals is a light tannish brown). It would be worth looking into, to see when to pick the leaves. I drink the tea regularly.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I harvest apple and chocolate mint leaves and the plants come back so maybe it would be okay to take the raspberry leaves.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I wonder if I took leaves would it hurt the plant?

@wolfgirl569 We were paying about 7 dollars for a couple of pints so these fresh berries are a super nice treat.

There are lots of raspberries growing around the local cemetery. No one harvests them because of the the obvious fertilizers.

This is exactly what picking blackberries is like. I have picked several gallons so far.
