I know that this topic might have been talked a lot before, and I haven't checked but I got into looking for penpals about a year ago. I was inspired by a movie featuring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in "You've Got Mail." I found some penpals from a website and the experience have been awesome! I met some great people that shared my views and until now I correspond with about 5 people on a weekly basis through emails. Of course, there's the conventional snail mail, but I like emails better. It's faster and it saves me the suspense of having to wait for a longer time between mail. (hehe) I'd share my experience in another post, but I want to ask you guys if you ever had penpals? If so, how was your experience? Do you still correspond with your penpals? Oh, and what type of mailing system do you prefer? Can't wait to hear from you! Have a blessed day!

It's still pretty common today for ones who are just willing or has the time to write letters. (hehe) I've never had a snail mail penpal before because it seems most people like to have things faster this generation around.

@sol_cee Well, sometimes we exchange pictures of beautiful places we go to. I had a penpal who went to travel to other countries and she sent me pictures of such amazing sights! I also get to learn about their culture, food (which I very much like). I had also a few penpals who wanted to communicate via WhatsApp and sometimes we call each other and just talk about different stuffs. It's kind of exciting and amazing at the same time. Why don't you try it? Oh, and I am Sherlocked as well.

Haha, of course not. We correspond at different intervals, plus, it's through e-mail so I can see who the recipient of my letters are. Do you have e-pals? or penpals?

It is awesome to exchange ideas with other people from various cultural backgrounds. Maybe you'd give it a try? The experience is worth it and you get to experience others' culture through your penfriend.

Do you still correspond with each other, though? It's really nice having friends who you may or may not know, eh? Sometimes they could be anonymous which is fine by me.

Well, taking each syllable to define it's meaning would suffice, I guess. 'Penpal' - pen basically means a pen where you use it to write. 'Pal' means a friend, right? So, put it together, it would mean 'Write a friend' By having penpals from around the world, you get to know one another's culture through letters. Nowadays, penpals are not limited only to written letters but electronic letters are now popular as a medium for having a penpal.

@Ladanger Hehe, I have a penpal site recommendation if you choose to look out for some amazing penpals. I met some great people there and we are still corresponding after one year through email! The experience is great, and you learn about each other's cultures or other things you may be interested in. Let me know if you want the link for the site.

This is an interesting post. I used to have lots of penpals and they range from snail mail to electronic ones. I did keep in touch for awhile until our busy schedule got in the way and then we hear from one another less. Work, commitments and study take precedence. But it was fun getting pictures of their native countries, surroundings and exchanging views and etc. Snail mail is slower but it feels a little bit more personalized for me.

Oh, thank you for sharing some of your wonderful experiences. It's really nice having penpals as you learn about each others' cultures, beliefs, and personalities. Things may get in the way, but the friendship will last. I haven't had any snail mail penpals as most people would want to correspond through email because of business and other things. Surely would like to try one day, but I'm getting busier by the minute so...maybe when I'm old. (hehe)

@GopherDanny Yup, I agree. When we are old and tend to slow things down, we have more time to write like Jane Austen and send snail mails.

I had lots of snail mail penpals when I was younger. Some of them were from my own country, but most of them were from different countries around the world. It was a lot of fun to write letters to them and I was always excited when I found a new letter in the mail. I still like to write, but now I write emails instead.

Yes I have had a lot when I was young using snail mail of course and I still do until now still using snail mail. there's a group in Instagram where you can find someone to be your penpal and it's the traditional one, meaning the rule is to use snail mail or that won't be called penpal at all.

@GopherDanny I don't know, I just never thought of considering those I exchange emails with as penpals. There are people here in mylot who exhange emails with me once in awhile.

Oh, that's great. It's good to know another fan of having penpals. (hehe) Well, the mailing system has evolved today and it's not limited already to writing letters. But I don't know how to categorize the exchanging of mail through emails. In letters, you call each other penpals. So, maybe in emails, you call each other epals? What do you think? Oh, and thanks for the Instagram penpal idea, maybe I'd check it out one day.
