There are a Lot of Different Types of RICE in the World, with One Being More Difficult.

I grew up eating white rice. There is also wild rice, and brown rice. Rice flavored different ways like the Riceroni brand and then newer brands to me from other cultures like Jasmine rice and one sold in a burlap type bag. We've heard about putting an electronic item that fell into water into dry rice to aid the evaporation process. Yesterday, I was again googling different things regarding the symotoms and treatment for a stress fracture which I probably have and saw that these types of fractures are treated with RICE. Hmm. After looking further at the explanation I remembered hearing this before although it's not something I think about much. For those that don't know it stands for rest, ice, compression, elevation. Now once again, I'm trying to spend time on my pillows on the bed with my feet elevated. I have an ice pack on my foot but not the affected area. It's easier to get it to stay there when my feet are on the ground. I need to remember to do that later. When I put my support hose on it causes my foot to hurt which was a concern until I saw compression is a help for it. I wear the hosiery for my veins and wounds and can't wear a boot cam for that reason (the wound). So, I'm mylotting a bit while propped up and resting. The image is the gel beads that escaped from a small ice pack I'm throwing away. Which z still won't let me load it here.

I cannot see the photo, but I can imagine how the gel beads look like. There are so many different kind of rice, even among the white rice, Carolina rice, Long grain, Parboiled, Arborio, Carnaroli (the kind of rice to make risotto).

I've yet to get my image to load. Some data they load easier than other days. I may just track it onto a reply once I'm back in WiFi territory, lol.

Wow! I liked the way you discussed about the RICE, I am impressed! I lost few of your discussions, may I know exactly what happend to your foot, a fracture? when it happened? Thanks!

Not sure exactly when. Either a week ago Saturday or the following Monday or Tuesday. It happened because I have a wound on my lower foot under the ankle that it's slowly healing. Sometimes it's not bothersome while other times it's harder to deal with. A few months ago I was either walking or standing more on the the ball of my foot and that caused the bone outside my Arch to begin hurting. I decided I needed to keep my foot fully down from then on but the on day recently I didn't follow my please as it was aching and kept lifting my heal which meant most of my weight was on one full foot and the ball of the other on. After that day I had considerable swelling and soreness.

@AKRao24 actually I'm able to interact here more when I'm resting than when I'm well as I'm busy otherwise. But, once I get my knee replaced I will have three months off from one job and one from the other, so you could get tired of stuff me a around more.

@MarshaMusselman .....I have one hip and knee that swells. Elevating sure does help.

@celticeagle do you I've it too? Giving either compression might be more difficult. I used to have a band for my knee which contained something like elastic unless that's exactly what it was. I don't know. It helped to hold my knee in when it became more difficult to walk but when my knee swelled or was to tight to continue wearing it. I don't know whether I should have worn a type of compression to our not. I do own a few pairs of thigh high support hose that I may need to behind wearing again after my next knee replacement just to minimize my veins getting worse. I can't imagine if there's anything for the hips though. My current knee waiting for a replacement doesn't swell like the other one did, but one would want to ask first if compression was needed or not.

Testing image upload/ feet raised
I was a bit concerned about the ways I was using compression for I use a support stocking with an ace bandage wrapped over it and at first I was concerned the compression was causing the swelling as the swelling didn't go down for about four days even while sleeping with five pillows under my feet. Now when I get up in the am my feet are back to normal size. I just needed to get into the bedroom for the resting and elevation periodically during the days I'm home more.

And here I thought you meant the edible type of rice and I was thinking that the picture was of some sort of newfangled rice just discovered or invented. I do hope that the RICE method is working for your injury.

@MarshaMusselman Glad it is not a fracture. I hope you are able to keep it elevated and compressed!

@Shellyann36 I am but I don't think it's helping as much as expected for all the time I've taken off to elevate it properly.

I didn't know rice aided in evaporation. I also learned about the RICE acronym. Good to know, and I'm glad it's helping with your foot.

I think the uncooked rice absorbs the water and it's an easier fix for drowned electronics.

Hi Marsha. My mom would buy the Jasmin rice sometimes. I will be on my way to bed as I am really sleepy. Good day for now.

I learned this type of RICE in first aid classes, then someone tried to teach me something else, but I still come back to this.

After reading about this I found another site doesn't recommend using ice but rather just cold. I did wonder whether I messed up my foot using the ice pack too long but the symptoms I have aren't what the Dr says they would be so maybe I'm fine after all. I've stayed away from using my I've packs now for more than a month. I'm not sure whether I'll use them again for my foot or whether I'll remove it after twenty mins or keep it on longer. I know I'll need the ice packs of I ever get my knee done.

I hope the RICE treatment works well for you and that you soon will be feeling much better and be back on your feet.

I'm already back on my feet. I've been working even with these problems. I just happen to take an extra day of vacation yesterday and we worked two small jobs. I should say my workers worked, I visited with my customers and drove them around. Now that I have several employees fully trained I feel better about not actually doing the work. But, I will be cashiering again sat through Tuesday and then taking another few days offer to spend with family visiting. Because it's rained all day today I've made sure to take breaks every few hours to get my feet back up in the air. I still have to remember to put the I've on the affected part though when I'm back to sitting up. Tomorrow may be a longer day but I still don't intend to do much of the work. But that may mean I also won't have anywhere to elevate my legs until I'm back home again.

You are right there! R - est I - ce C - ompression E - levation you do this within 48 hours of trauma unless otherwise specified like if there is hematoma, it might be a fracture or more. But with simple trauma, you can use this as first aid.

@MarshaMusselman yes, after 48 hours you can alternate hot compress and ice

Most people would be in a boot cam by now but that could be too tight on my wound so I'm not going that route at present Watching that I don't walk on uneven surfaces helps a lot. This morning I stepped into a hose, not a good idea as I felt that right away. I may get another schlero procedure on the veins under my wound to help the healing move faster. That is scheduled for tomorrow.

We tend to eat more basmati rice as it has a little bit of flavour to it. I love coconut ice and pineapple rice. Thai sticky rice and jasmine rice are nice too.

I'm guessing that is the one in the burlap bag? It sounds a bit familiar. I sell them where I work but I've not retired those from other countries yet.
