Homemade Love

The above is the title of a book of short stories I'm reading. This story was about a middle aged man who lived in a rural area. He owned land and a small home that was well kept. He grew vegetable gardens that his wife of twenty five years put up. He was a happy man and loved his wife until he began to feel unhappy. He looked at his garden and they looked like nothing but more work. He looked at his wife and decided she was ugly. One day he told his wife he was leaving for the city and was never coming back. He bought a bus ticket and hotfooted It to the nearest city. He found a dinky little room and went out on the town. He went into a bar and two guys got in a fight. Someone swung a bottle and he was hit in the head, had to go to the hospital to get it sewn up. A day or so later he went to another bar and a woman in a short skirt and skimpy top asked him to buy her a drink. To make a long story short she went to his room and they did what they did. She left and he started to get dressed and found his wallet was missing. Next morning he went out to get something to eat and as he was about to enter the restaurant a man came out with a mask on his face and carrying a gun. As he ran the masked man fired his gun barely grazing the guys shoulder. After another visit to the Hospital he went to his room and packed his bag and got on a bus headed for home. The closer he got to home the happier he felt. He got off the bus and looked out at his house and his large green fields and decided he was the happiest man in the world. He walked down the path to his house. His wife ran out to meet him and she was so pretty he couldn't believe he had left her to go to the city. So the lesson is, the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

That's what I'd say. She must be one of a kind.

Sadly, many don't realize what they have until it's gone. If he can't see what he has first then he doesn't deserve it.

That's my opinion but sometimes It takes a shock for some people to see what a good life they have.

I was going to say that. "The grass isn't always greener on the other side." I think that phrase is usually meant for someone who envies another, is jealous of them. This story is about a man who covets something he thinks he needs. He is a lucky man indeed to have a wife so loving and faithful as to take him back. You will have to tell us about more of the stories from this book.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It's an unlikely story but the reading was interesting. All the stories in the book are extra short.

True. He certainly found the grass wasn't greener on the other side of his fence. I'll let you know if I find any others of interest.

They didn't mention anything about the fact that he might have brought home some STD with him after that encounter with that stranger. Guess the end of the story would not end there: the wife might have found out she got AIDS suddenly, so would be the husband. Let see, I think that poor wife would die first (it is often that way in real life, the innocent ones always got killed first!). The guy would sit there in his loneliness, having flashbacks... His farm would be wild with weeds, the small home became a shamble, crooked with dangling and tattered curtains/doors, the kitchen sink piled up with dirty plates etc. Served him right . (I am mean aren't I .)

Actually that sounds more like real life. But in the story he did get std and had treatment before he went home.

It is good also, that at least, he realized that it is still home sweet home, where her wife is that can make him happy. I think God gave her a lesson in life.

I hope he did not bring her home some disease after being with that nasty woman. Of course she will most likely never know he did that.

I didn't include that part of the story He did receive that little gift but had treatment before he returned home. I wouldn't think he would tell his wife.

Sounds a moralistic type of story but a happy ending is always good.
