smartphones versus memory

i received an email from yougov (a survey site i joined few months back) regarding their june 18 newsletter. it showed the results on the question: what would you do if you left your smartphone behind at home? based on the countries listed, it covers the asia-pacific region. i sorted the list from highest to lowest. 65% percent of respondents in hong kong, and 62% in korea (i'm assuming south korea) would "head back home immediately to retrieve their smartphone." in contrast, only 39% in new zealand and 35% in australia would go back to get it. hong kong 65% korea 65% mainland china 62% taiwan 54% singapore 52% india 49% vietnam 49% malaysia 44% thailand 44% philippines 43% indonesia 41% japan 41% new zealand 39% australia 35% me? i will go back if, one, i'm still near the house and, two, if there's something really important that i have to do or go to, or details that i've inputted in the calendar. if not, i'll rely on my memory. that means i could manage to do 3 out of 5 tasks. or remember to buy 7 out of 10 items in my grocery list. sometimes i make the mistake of buying what we already have. oops! can you remember everything you need to do, go to, and buy even without a list or reminder? have you ever forgotten your phone and missed something important?

but even basic cell phones (call and text) are still handy for communicating with your colleagues

Most of the time I forget my smartphone at home and I really do not care. I remember what I have to do and I can reply to calls when I come back home.

As you know already because I have mentioned it here in mylot, I'm a planner addict with real paper and pens, lots of pens. So if I left my phone at home, the only reason I'd go back and get it if I were still near is because I might get important phone calls. Other than that, I don't need my phone concerning my reminders, and to do lists, and the things I buy.

I will always take my mobile phone, if I forget it at home, as long as there is time, I will try to go home to pick up the phone. I'm addicted.

I will only return home for it when I'm nearby. I'm afraid I'd need it in an emergency. I am old fashioned and still carry paper lists. Lol!

i tend to input thing then forget them completely, knowing i can refer to them when the time comes. so of course, when i forget the phone because, let's say, it's still charging, i only remember three-fourths of it.

Hello. Yes, there were times that I forgot to bring my phone because we were in a hurry. Good thing my husband had written in paper the things we need to buy or the list of errands.

as long as there's nothing urgent, it's okay. and if anyone needed to call you, they can call your wife or son.

I have forgotten my phone at home twice already. I both have to file an undertime to get it. Why? Because my boss always calls and texts me for instruction. The other time she kept calling me already on my phone, while I was on my way back to our house to retrieve it. Good thing, she was told I have to go home to get my forgotten phone. So now, while putting on my make-up I would already put it in my bag. Before I go out of our house, I double check if it is in my bag already.

There's been only 2 or 3 times that I've left my phone at home and I did not go back to get it. I don't put tasks to do on my phone - only schedules for meetings and birthdays and anniversaries.

I used to know so many phone numbers but now I don't know.i do carry a small note book with the numbers written down. If I do forget ,very seldom ,I find that things are OK without the phone.

My cellphone is only good for one thing: for my bosses & children to contact me. If I am heading to work, and know for sure that my children are all fine, my cellphone can stay home. I have never used it for anything else beside for reading news now and then to avoid boredom.)

My phone isn't that smart. If I take it with me it is just so I have something to do while I wait for something else. I belong to YouGov, too and just redeemed for my first reward. It's a cool site and now I know they pay out. Good luck with them!

If I forgot my phone, it no big deal. I'm not going to die by not having access to it for a few hours. Plus not having it on me is sometimes an advantage like when my brother wants me to do stuff for him. I can just say "oops didn't have my phone" . My shopping list is in my head. Actually works better for me than writing things down.

great point about being temporarily inaccessible. sometimes you just want to focus on things you need to do for yourself, or just enjoy your day out. mother tends to text me additional things to buy when i'm out, but sometimes i check my phone too late, like on my way home, or when i'm already home!

I have left my phone twice at home and reached to work. Luckily I remember few important numbers like my mom, brother, husband and my home's landline. I called all numbers and told them about my situation from my workplace number and gave them my office number in case of emergency. I was relaxed after that
